Thanks for that intriguing and wonderful article. I loved it.

Did the CATHOLIC media at the time also miss it? Granted, Catholic media is much bigger now … but even then there were Catholic newspapers and magazines about. Just wondering.

Some “summaries” of Reagan’s Presidential trips don’t even list Portugal as a stop. ??!

Hey, if you like Reagan and Portugal you have to watch Reagan’s trip to Portugal where he spoke a great deal about Fatima. He definitely knew what Fatima was and was very fond of Mary according to reports.

Starting approximately in minute 19 or 20 he starts talking about the power of the little children at Fatima being stronger than armies!!! Very moving.

OP, thanks for posting this. Excellent article! My favorite part:

“As President Reagan uttered the word “Fatima” to the [Portuguese parliament] chamber, a pause followed as the astonished deputies awaited their translation for confirmation of what they thought they might have just heard. When the corresponding words came through in their language, vigorous clapping ensued. This was not what they had expected from a head of state addressing them in formal session, and especially from an American Protestant president.”
