Fake story, written by a man about a woman having a child after rape. Sick.
I don’t think it’s “sick”, since I’m assuming that the person who’s posted it on the website just didn’t realize it’s not a true story (of course, if they knew and were trying to pass it off as true, then that’s a different matter). It is a lovely short story, but it’s just that - a story. It’s a real shame that it’s been mistaken for a true story, since there are plenty of true stories like that which would have been perfect instead.

Unless, do you mean it’s “sick” because it’s been mistaken for true, or do you think that male writers shouldn’t write stories like that at all?

How tragic she had to suffer so, but how wonderful she was able to forgive the perpetrator. There do exist stories like hers, but they are not common.

May God bless her and give her strength.

Another woman would have chosen abortion, so may God bless her abundantly for choosing life even under those circumstances.

What? Why would someone write a fake story like this even if just as a “literally example”?
Isnt that a bit misguided?
I find it abit offensive as my background is that part of the world and the horrors of rape that happened during the war are not something people should minimalise/deceive about by writing fake stories-even if are well intended…
What to make of this??

May be a fake BUT this has happened and for real. So why attack it so much and deflect from the real meaning of it? Are we to learn nothing from this?

There are whole books of what they call “sermon stories”… designed to teach .

One I heard years ago of a man working on a big water mill. His son is playing on the wheel when an alarm comes in of a fast approaching disaster that will kill many. So he has a choice; save them and lose his son or save his son and cause the deaths of many…

It does seem poor taste to take such a serious subject and make up a story and pass it on as true. They could have been honest that it was just a story.

What did he choose?

What did he choose?
Ah that was left to the congregation to decide each one.

The same pastor told another he said was true… A man out shooting, illegaly in wild counry. One bullet skims a lake and kills a young woman a long way away. It was not his intention; is he responsible for her death and culpably so?

You get it? To make YOU think and decide. see

storiesforpreaching.com/ and google more…

I’m afraid I lost a lot of respect for my then parish priest when I heard him tell of an event as true and not only that, as actually happening to him, which I had personally heard quoted to him from a magazine story.

What was wrong with him saying, ‘I was reading the other day’? Why the untruth?

I get that Jesus used parables, but that was the teaching style of the times, so His audience would not take them as real. And He never told them as happening to Him.

To return the subject of the article. I read it with distaste. Enough said.

I read a simpler version of this or very similar in the mid to late 90s. It differs in relfectiveness only ie the original was simpler, more news item and less introspective, more direct . I remain sure that this has a base in actual fact. There are romanticised details here re sltting trees etc that were not there then. But the issue of forgiveness and not aborting the baby was much more stated.

I realize it is not a true story but I don’t believe it was God’s will that she was raped. She makes it seem that way.

Ah thank you. THAT was the difference I was trying to evaluate. THAT is it. The original was not like that. Wish I could find it.

The point here is that that ie rape and pregnancy must have happened many times in war google nun raped and nun raped forgiveness and so many come up.

And there was more re the baby.

This is a very masculine bit of writing also…

And the style of writing is not common for someone from this background.
It uses the word “teenager” and we don’t use the term teenager. We have words that could be translated as “youth” but not the term teenager & it would seem odd for someone who was a nun in ExYugoslavija to use that term unless she was USA or English raised.

If anyone is interested, below are some real stories of rape from the Yugoslavija war.
Unfortunately, they have a more heartbreaking “ending”.
They can be read by using google translate but there is somethings lost in translation.
The first story is about Alen.
He is the product of a mother who was raped in the war.His mother did not want to breastfeeding him as she did not want to bond with a baby from rape.
She abandoned him to the hospital and he was adopted by a hospital worker.
When old enough,Alen was told that he was adopted and the circumstance. He thinks his father should receive the harshest sentence.Unfortunately he also has ill feelings towards his mother for leaving him.

The second story is from a woman who was raped also.
She never married because of the scars of being raped and fear of people’s perceptions.

The third story is also a woman that was raped. Her son tried to defend her and the rapists slit his throat. She was taken to another place to be again raped and other women were raped their too including an 11 year old child. Her heartbroken hearing the child say “please uncle,I beg you don’t”. (Uncle is not literal uncle but refers to an affectionate term that we use for older male).

This whole exercise is pretty distasteful to those who survive actual rape. I don’t believe that it is ever God’s will for someone to be raped.

I don’t believe that it is ever God’s will for someone to be raped.
I think there’s some confusion, here. The short story is not trying to imply that God ever wants someone to be raped, anymore than God ever wants someone to be murdered. There is a difference between God’s perfect will - things He directly wants and chooses to happen - and His permissive will - things He doesn’t want to happen, but allows to happen because humanity has free will.
