Time to Admit It: the Church Has Always Been Right on Birth Control - Business Insider

Many people, (including our editor) are wondering why the Catholic Church doesn’t just ditch this requirement. They note that most Catholics ignore it, and that most everyone else finds it divisive, or “out-dated.” C’mon! It’s the 21st century, they say!

I see at least three huge errors in reasoning in this article:

• Appeal to authority*
• “Hindsight bias,” also known as the knew-it-all-along effect
• Post hoc, ergo propter hoc Post hoc “after this, thus because of this,” is an error created by assuming a sequence of events equals causation.

Just because Pope Pius correctly predicted some of these societal phenomenons does not mean the causes he cites are the actual causes.

Another fallacy committed here is “False Premise”: Birth control did not start in the 60’s. There were birth control methods documented in ancient Egypt. The use of condoms was actually tested and documented as a prevention for syphilis in the 16th century.
