**This is a PROPHECY that Jesus will be rejected by his own people; and He will be put to death; and the Virgin Mary will witness it. **

Jesus is a sign of contradiction because the Jews have long awaited for the coming of their Messiah, but rejects the One they long awaited for.

We often hear “No parent should have bury their child. No mother should have to bury a son.” So piercing of the Blessed Mother’s heart simply means that she will witness the death of her Only Son.

There’s a somewhat well-known, traditional Priest who claims that the bit about revealing the thoughts of many hearts means that Our Lady of Sorrows can reveal to us our hidden, predominant fault. He alleges that Simeon informed Our Lady that all of the pain she will suffer during Our Lord’s passion will merit this particular grace for whomever should approach her in this manner.

Since he’s the only person I’ve ever heard claim this, I don’t know how much truth there is to this. But apparently, in his work as an exorcist, this approach has worked well.
