How about “Thou shalt not kill”? Most contraceptions are abortive.

Revelation 9:20-21: “… and they did not repent of their SORCERIES”

CA This Rock and what was reprinted in a CCL NFP mag demonstrates that sorcery was considered a reference to ancient practice of ABC, whereby a person would go to a witch, she would (like psychic) find person a sexual partner and then the person would return and get “magic potions” from the sorceress to render their fornications sterile.

Maybe someone who is familiar with this rock articles can look this one up for me?

also, there are brief times in Pauls letters where he delineates sorcery as one of many sins that excludes one from salvation.

blessings to you!

John 21
25 And there are also many other things which Jesus did, the which, if they should be written every one, I suppose that even the world itself could not contain the books that should be written. Amen.

Id say contraception would come under that category. So what are to do? Trust the Church!

Matthew 16
18 And I say also unto thee, That thou art Peter, and upon this rock I will build my church; and the gates of hell shall not prevail against it. 19 And I will give unto thee the keys of the kingdom of heaven: and whatsoever thou shalt bind on earth shall be bound in heaven: and whatsoever thou shalt loose on earth shall be loosed in heaven.

Hi exiled,

You won’t find a specific verse regarding artificial contraception. But the authority of the Catholic Church is deeper than any book, albeit the Bible.

You need to understand a few things first;
  1. Jesus is the Groom, the new Adam.
  2. The Church is the Bride, the new Eve.
  3. The Church was born from the ribs of Christ on the cross, like the way Eve was born from ribs of Adam in his deep sleep.
  4. Jesus gave his life giving body completely so that the Church could have life.
  5. Marriage is a sacrament, representing the relationship between Jesus and the Church.
and so…
  1. We must give our bodies completely to our spouses, and not “contracept” it.
We’ve discussed this before plenty of times in these forums. Look at these for starters…

P.S. The Church does allow family planning, which is different to contraception.

Can you all give me some passages from the Bible that are the basis of the Church’s teaching on artificial contraception?
Then Judah said to Onan, “Lie with your brother’s wife and fulfill your duty to her as a brother-in-law to produce offspring for your brother.” 9 But Onan knew that the offspring would not be his; so whenever he lay with his brother’s wife, he spilled his semen on the ground to keep from producing offspring for his brother. 10 What he did was wicked in the LORD’s sight; so he put him to death also. (Genesis 38:8-10)

Although the ancients had their (to us laughable) folk methods of preventing conception, you will search in vain through scripture for a passage proscribing artificial contraception. The Catholic Church does not rely on scriptural authority for all its teaching, nor is it much bothered when such authority is not there. “Thou shalt not kill” does not apply, as most effective forms of contraception do not involve the destruction of a zygote.

As far as scripture is concerned, this was the one i was thinking of.

Also, it is just logical: God created the sexual act in order to create new human life (this is proven by the fact that this is what is the intent of the design of the genitals–just as the stomach is designed to digest food, etc–the pleasures of sex are a “by product” to make it enjoyable in order that we would be inspired to perform the acts, just as the good taste of (most) food inspires us to eat, along with hunger, in order that we survive.) Therefore, it is God’s will that the sex act be used in order to create human life. Therefore if you take measures to prevent these results you are acting against God’s will, i.e. sin.

oops, I’m sorry, jbuck, I didn’t realize that you are not attacking the Church. Sorry!:o

But I’ll say what I have to say anyway.

we must give all in love. Would the Father hold back part of self when He loves the Son? Would the Son attempt to “protect” Himself from love of Father?

Marital relations are one of most important foundations of human existence. If love is removed here, civilization will collapse.

you might consider reading the following that shows that there are unimaginably important differences between NFP and artificial birth control, even if, in some cases, it is not abortaficient.

here is the brief article:

On Serious Difference between Artificial and Natural Birth Control

Nor does it have to. The Catholic Church received its authority directly from Jesus. The leaders of the early Church passed on the fullness of the gospel to their disciples…some of it even got written down.

Only Prostestant churches have to prop up their heretical gatherings through appeals to and misinterpretations of “scripture alone”.

I am not asking because I question the authority of the church, I fully submit to her wisdom.
It is merely for study that I am inquiring, and “scripturecatholic.com” was very helpful.
Thanks

The Church herself cites some passages…

Pius XI, *Casti Connubii *(1930)
Holy Writ bears witness that the Divine Majesty regards with greatest detestation this horrible crime and at times has punished it with death. As St. Augustine notes, “Intercourse even with one’s legitimate wife is unlawful and wicked where the conception of the offspring is prevented. Onan, the son of Juda, did this and the Lord killed him for it.” [St. August., *De coniug. adult.
, lib. II, n. 12, Gen, XXXVIII, 8-10.]
