I believe that all Catholics are bound to accept as true all the the Church teaches is true. How bout the rest of you? šŸ™‚

I do too, though I have my difficulties. Marian doctrine is probably my greatest difficulty, and then there are moments when it makes sense (the Revelation Reading today) and make it so clear. I have the struggle with it, but the Church was instituted by Christ, has the guardianship of the Holy Spirit and that guidance, that I trust the Churchā€™s wisdom and teaching.

I agree. A quote from John Henry Newman speaks well to what you said:

ā€œTen thousand difficulties do not make one doubt.ā€

I voted other, Iā€™m not Confirmed yet, Iā€™ll be beginning RCIA this September.
However, I believe everything the Church teaches regardless of whether I understand it or not.

I agree. A Catholic is bound to accept as true what the Church teaches. There is no place for ā€œpick n chooseā€ Catholicism in the Church.

If you still donā€™t understand a particular teaching, then the place to start is by consulting the *Catechism of the Catholic Church, *which is quite readable. Coupled with prayer, God will do the rest.

Me too, thank God. I feel so sorry for people that have no one but themselves at the helm of the ship.

Of course, thatā€™s one of the things that make us Catholics.

I always felt the Church was true since Protestantism failed (and still fails) to make logical sense. I have questioned Church teaching in the past due to my lack of understanding. However, now I am ā€œon board with Catholicismā€ fully whether I understand or not because I KNOW the Chuch is true. - What a great feeling to make that last step towards full acceptance. šŸ™‚

EDIT: Iā€™m sure I havenā€™t had my last test however. šŸ˜‰

There have been so many time when I havenā€™t understood a teaching and after just giving it to the Lord he clears it up for me. It doesnā€™t bother me anymore when I donā€™t understand. I know Iā€™m in good hands and the Lord is so faithful!!

It is as it is the authority of the Church I will always believe.

I chose the first option but I do think we as Catholics have a responsibility to understand difficult teaching to a level that makes us comfortable with it. The fact of the matter is that the Church has very good reason for every difficult teaching. If a Protestant off the street walks up to me and says explain that Marian nonsense, I could, if I had about 5 hours to do so. It makes sense in context of the truth. Apart from the authority of the Church however, it is almost nonsensical to someone. Got another 5 hours to explain that?

It is sensible to go with the Church but I do not think we have to be ignorant about the reasons nor do I think we are bound to be comfortable about it until we ARE comfortable about it. In fact making every attempt to know WHY deepens our faith. The Church gives us a way to do this and we should take every opportunity to do so. I have had great difficulties. Only through study, prayer and reflection have I come to see difficult doctrines like Mary, indulgences and contraception not to be stumbing blocks but pillars of beauty and truth setting the Catholic Church aside as His Holy Church.

The truth really does set you free. You can let it by obedience and by taking steps to understand it.

Just wanted to share a quick anecdote. I was checking the availability of an apologetics book on Amazon a while back. I was saddened, but not surprised as I read the first customer review. The reviewer, who identified herself as Catholic, gave the book a bad review. Her reason? It was written by an ā€œangryā€ (i.e. conservative on doctrine) Catholic who failed to point out ā€œthe freedom Catholics have to disagree with doctrine and still remain true to the faithā€ā€¦or something along those lines.

Itā€™s such a shame that there are so many so-called cafeteria Catholics who think its perfectly fine to pick and choose doctrines to believe as they see fit. They are NOT being true to the faith. Perhaps we need more ā€œangryā€ Catholics out there to help these people understand why they are wrong, and help them come back to the fullness of the faith.

I believe 100% what Mother Church teachesā€¦If one believes that She has the authority to say which books are and are not inspired (The Bible), maybe people should take a closer look into thingsā€¦

I believe in God, the Father Almighty, Creator of Heaven and earth;
and in Jesus Christ, His only Son Our Lord,
Who was conceived by the Holy Spirit, born of the Virgin Mary, suffered under Pontius Pilate, was crucified, died, and was buried.
He descended into Hell; the third day He rose again from the dead;
He ascended into Heaven, and sitteth at the right hand of God, the Father almighty; from thence He shall come to judge the living and the dead.
I believe in the Holy Sprit, the holy Catholic Church, the communion of saints, the forgiveness of sins, the resurrection of the body and life everlasting.
Amen.

Amen I say to that ā€¦we as Catholics are very blessed to have the Chruch to be our one true mystical body of Christ.

When I stood at my confirmation into The Holy Catholic Church three years ago, I proclaimed that I do believe all the The Church teachs. I understood and meant it then and mean every jot and iota of it now.
