It says that the Catholic church is the whore on the beast described in Revelations and even shows verses where it describes the colours the Catholic church associate with and the chalice etc
I wouldn’t even waste my time clicking on the link.

The “whore of Babylon” clearly refers to pagan Rome. You have to put it in the context of the entire book, whose name, by the way, is ‘Revelation’, without the ‘s’ at the end.

That’s some of the anti-Catholic propaganda that shows up on YouTube and the intarweb. It is based on misinterpretation of Revelation 17 and Catholic Answers and many others have refuted it many times. Most of it is highly speculative and baseless hogwash. One way you can tell is that these types almost never give any historical facts or sources. They distort things to make it appear that the Catholic Church fits the scriptures given. One thing I can suggest is that you take the time to read the book of Revelations carefully all the way through and in that way become familiar with its context, at which point you will begin to see through the propaganda.

Here’s some links I found with a search in the Ask an Apologist forum that should help clear this up for you.

Thankyou this is very informative… 🙂

The original (or “preterist”) meaning of the whore of Babylon in the book of Revelation was a reference to pagan Rome and as well as referring to the seven hills of Rome, the seven heads of the beast from the sea represent seven Roman emperors. The seventh head “who was, now is not, and is still to come” is most likely a reference to the Nero redidivus myth, where many people thought that this emperor would one day return.
But of course as well as having meaning for its original audience, Revelation was concerned with events that will happen at the end of time. The eschatological meaning of the whore of Babylon is the last world empire - a new Rome, or world empire, which will be overthrown to pave the way for the rise of the Antichrist. Notice that the whore rides the back of the beast and is not part of the beast with seven heads itself. The beast with seven heads is a different entity which eventually turns on this empire. In the new book Unveiling the Apocalyspe: Prophecy in Catholic Tradition, Emmett O’Regan argues that the only modern equivalent of a world empire at the moment is the current hedgemony of the USA, and the beast with seven heads will be a new “Rome” or united European superstate.

Wow, that video is terrible.

One of the saddest things that Sola Scriptura has done to our global Christian community is when know-it-alls use Sacred Scripture to feed their egos and personal agendas by making themselves look good with their clever words and wind up confusing innocent Christians in the process.

So you take someone who hates the Catholic Church, and he uses the Bible to attack the very Church that is a home for the covenant family of Christ. Sounds like the Pharisees using the Mosaic Law to attack Christ Himself.

My advice to the OP is to not concern yourself with “vain pursuits” of knowledge of this type. There are SO many more important ways to grow in the Spirit.

The Holy Spirit will inform your heart if you allow Him to guide you and to meditate on the Scripture that HE wants you to focus on. If you need help discerning what that is, then I recommend you talk to a priest, nun, or lay minister. With the assistance of prayer, they can help you meditate on the passages that you really need.

The Catholic Church is about covenant relationship with the Trinity, the Saints and Angels, the suffering souls in Purgatory, and our brothers and sisters in Christ here on Earth.

Debating about vain knowledge (like WHEN the end of times will come, etc) is a DISTRACTION FROM CHRIST. It’s just terrible for a Christian to get wrapped around the axle about this stuff…

Blessings to you, from a convert myself…

Anti-Catholic stuff. It’s actually very unChristian and unloving to promote stuff to suit their own agendas.

There are people out there who just love it whenever someone preaches against Catholicism. Jimmy Swaggert, for instance, would pull out the anti Catholic venom whenever the contributions to his ministry would diminish. The result would be a flood of money along with a chorus of “preach it, brother”. We are all aware of what Bishop Sheen said of those opposed to the Catholic Church. I happen to think the good bishop was too optimistic. None the less, there is a sizeable core of people out there who harbor a bias, a prejudice or a hatred [you pick the word you want] against the Catholic Church. These people will not be swayed by reason, logic or evidence from their bias, prejudice or hatred. These people are mostly fundamentalists and also call themselves christians which in their case is oxymoronic.

Christine, I belong to a Christian forum and was recently shocked to receive a link sent to me within one of the threads. It was to a video, which as soon as it started began to imply the Catholic church is pagan, when a picture of the Pope came up on the screen I immediately clicked out of it I felt sickened.

There is no doubt that the world is increasingly drawn toward paganasm, and I believe that this, is part of the apostasy scripture warns us of that, along with the splinter groups, is growing around us. One of the reasons why the Catholic church comes under such attack. Because she is the truth of Christ who speaks against it. Who sees through what is being done in the world.

Satan who was a liar from the beginning always attacks by turning the truth around, in an attempt to make what is good evil. I find Luke 16:23 a great comfort.

“And I also say to you that you are Peter, and on this rock I will build My church, and the gates of Hades shall not prevail against it.” Luke 16:23.

I’ve just been reading ‘Our Church and Pope Are Under Attack, We Must Respond.’ Here is a link to it: It is written by Michael Terheyden, a contributing writer for Catholic Online and I agree with what he says, can see it happening.

The Whore of Babylon

Remember, in Rev 17 it says that the whore is the GREAT CITY? True, yet this isn’t the Church in Rome, for the GREAT CITY is the place where the Lord was crucified (Revelation 11:8). It also refers to the city where the Lord was crucified allegorically as Sodom and Egypt. In Isaiah 1:10 Israel is referred to as Sodom & Gomorrah. In Ezekiel 16:26 - Egypt is listed among the first who she engaged in promiscuity with.

In Ezekiel 16:29 it sates that Jerusalem (the harlot) extended her promiscuity.

Isaiah 1:21 below, God calls Jerusalem a harlot, which is another word for whore:

“How the faithful city has become a harlot, she that was full of justice! Righteousness lodged in her, but now murderers.”

Israel is also called a harlot in Jeremiah 3:6:

"The LORD said to me in the days of King Josiah: “Have you seen what she did, that faithless one, Israel, how she went up on every high hill and under every green tree, and there played the harlot?”

Ezekiel 16:2 says that Jerusalem has abominations:

"Son of man, make known to Jerusalem her abominations,

Ezekiel 16:23-42 gives a detailed account of her harlotry, giving the blood of her children to her lovers, and her idolatry. Count how many times she’s called a harlot.

Jesus Himself condemns Jerusalem in Matthew 23:29-38

`If we had lived in the days of our fathers, we would not have taken part with them in shedding the blood of the prophets.’ Thus you witness against yourselves, that you are sons of those who murdered the prophets."

" I send you prophets and wise men and scribes, some of whom you will kill and crucify, and some you will scourge in your synagogues and persecute from town to town, that upon you may come all the righteous blood shed on earth"

Truly, I say to you, all this will come upon THIS generation (the generation that was living at the time of Jesus’ preaching). “O Jerusalem, Jerusalem, killing the prophets and stoning those who are sent to you! How often would I have gathered your children together as a hen gathers her brood under her wings, and you would not! Behold, your house is forsaken and desolate.”

Here we see Jesus foretelling the destruction of Jerusalem by pagan Rome in 70 AD. So who destroyed the Whore of Babylon? Babylon did, which was pagan Rome.(Babylon is a code name for Rome, which symbolized sexual and immoral excess). Why was Jerusalem destroyed? Because they killed the prophets and stoned the ones sent to them. This should sound familiar, because in Revelation 18:20, 24 we heard that:

“Rejoice over her, O heaven, O saints and apostles and prophets, for God has given judgment for you against her!”

“And in her was found the blood of prophets and of saints, and of all who have been slain on earth.” Rev 18:20. Just as Jesus said in Matthew 23:35 “And so upon you will come all the righteous blood that has been shed on earth”

So here we see in Revelation that the Whore of Babylon killed apostles and prophets. Apostles were those that had actually been with Jesus, and prophets only existed up until the first century, way before the Vatican was established. So how could it be the Church in Rome who slew them? Jews of that day, like the murderous Saul, were turning in Christians to the Roman authorities to be tortured and murdered. Thankfully, on his way to Damascus, Saul saw the light of Christ and became the saintly Paul.

Jesus and Revelation agree that Jerusalem has killed the ones sent to it, and Jesus predicts the coming destruction of Jerusalem in this generation, which happened about 40 years later, in 70 AD.

Revelation 17:16 says that the ten horns (symbolizing the rulers of pagan Rome) will destroy the whore by fire, which is exactly what the Romans did to Jerusalem in 70 AD. And then Revelation 17:14 says that the Lamb will conquer them both. This happened in the 4th Century, when Constantine became the first Christian emperor of Rome, who stopped all of the religious persecutions of Christians with the Edict of Milan in 313 AD.

The Vatican does not sit on one of the 7 hills of ancient Rome, Vatican Hill sits across the Tiber River from ancient Rome on one hill, Vatican Hill.

Jerusalem, the great city where Jesus was crucified (Rev 11:8), seems to be the great city, or the Whore of Babylon!

For the record, Jerusalem sits on 7 hills, namely, Scopus, Nob, Mount of Corruption, Old Mount Zion, Ophel, Rock, and New Mount Zion. And at the time of John, Jerusalem did have a lot of power over many Kings of the earth (because Jerusalem was the center of worship of God), as well as being a center of commerce.

And for the record, the word Antichrist appears nowhere in the book of Revelation ! St. John does describe who the antichrist is in 1 John 2 - An antichrist is someone who denies that Jesus is the Messiah.

Sime… I love this! If it’s okay, I’d like to copy this and save it on my computer because what you wrote here is simply amazing! This is the most direct, easy to understand, and straightforward answer to the “whore of babylon” garbage that I have seen. Well done!

It’s a double error to misinterpret Scripture and to mislead others.

Exactly!

To try to mislead 1.2 billion Catholic Christians and to have them leave ‘The Body of Christ’ reminds me of Jesus’ own words in the Gospels:
“Whoever receives one such child in my name receives me;** but whoever causes one of these little ones who believes in me sin, it would better for him to have a great millstone round his neck and to be drowned in the depth of the sea.” (Matt 18:5-6)**

All we can due is pray for people like this, that they will repent and follow the Light of Christ!

People have been striking at the Church for two thousand years and it continues to grow.
The Pharisees were also warned of this:
“So in the present case I tell you, keep away from these men and let them alone;** for if this plan or this undertaking is of men, it will fail; but if it is of God, you will not be able to overthrow them. You might even be found opposing God!” (Acts 5:38-39)**
