As an adult with schizophrenia are my thoughts sinful?

I am an adult with schizophrenia.

I am confused with what I think is “sin full thoughts”.

As a life long catholic (I am forty two years old.) I have thoughts about other men as well as women, I think sexual stuff and not sure if I am sinning by having thees thoughts.

Is it a sin to think of having sex with other men and women when I try to get to sleep?
 
Dear Friend,

Involuntary thoughts are not sins. With mental illness people often have many involuntary thoughts that disturb them as in your experience. Your illness is a share in the Lord’s passion–particularly when his mental stress caused Him to sweat blood.

Your illness will not keep you from Him. He is right there with you and loves you very much. Pray for us. Your prayers are highly valuable.
