I’m sure we have all heard people say this as long as I`m right with god and I don’t kill steal etc I’ll go to heaven. Can anyone point me to some resources that refute this new age deception?

Jesus is the ONLY way to God the Father, He
said: “No one comes to the Father EXCEPT
thru Me” John 14:6 and St. Paul says in
Ephesians 2:8-9 “It is by Grace that we have
been saved thru Faith, AND THIS IS NOT
from yourselves, it is a gift from God, NOT
BY WORKS, lest anyone should boast”
So we see that Salvation is a GIFT from
God, just as Life is a gift, based on the
efficacious offering of Christ on the Cross
for our sins, it cannot be earned by living
“right with God”!!

One answer would be to ask who it is that defines being “right with God” – fallible individual humans, or God Himself?

It’s such a bizarre notion that it’s difficult to know where to begin. Can a thief be let off the hook because he tried his best not to steal? Can an adulterer be excused from responsibility because he tried to be faithful? 
When the heart is carnal, it’s no use to try to be good. Only a spiritual transformation can make you capable of being, and therefore doing, righteousness. Moreover, it is supremely arrogant to look at the rest of the world and assume you’re better than most people. Ego-based philosophies will only lead to sin and God’s judgment.
