Hey guys, My name is what it is, and I am a contolled obssessive cumpulsive victim.
I know that OCD is a gift from God, the problem is that the devil has the operator manual to it, and I dont. He uses it against me constantly, I constantly doubt, I put all m faith in my God which is the only reason I am at where I am at, but I still am just dumb alota times.

Well im up to no Good scrupulosity and I need an answer bad on this one.

Scenario: Had a wonderful day to day, glory to God, went to daily mass, prayed through out the day, it was wonderful. Let us just say it was a very long day, and I am a recovering adict from a certain aspect of life that is not so pertainit to whats going. Well I am taking somewhere around 22-26 real hours this semester, the reason I dont know is that labs take up alot more time than the credit that they give us for the clasess.

So all I do all day is basically study, worship God, and try to do his glory,

well this evening I was pretty stressed, God is my savior and my stress realiver, but still I fall back on my addiction whenever I tend to be stressed.
I set everything up for a grave sin, was tempted into, and just in getting ready to fall, I said no I am going to make a commitment to not sin.

And I didnt…

The problem: I still felt guilty, I still felt like I sinned terribly although I pulled out of sinning, Im not sure,

how bad did I sin,

Do I need to go to confession?

Thoughts,

bear in mind the three things needed for mortal sin.

also bear in mind that a person who is scrupulous can still commit a mortal sin.

but not knowing what you mean per se…by “I set everything up for a grave sin” and “just in getting ready to fall”…it is difficult to comment…

for one can already commit a mortal sin before one gets to the main event…

in deciding in ones thoughts…or buying bad things…etc…(already grave matters)

If i decide to kill fred…and then go buy a gun…and then later decide not to kill him…

i still would need to confess my decision to kill him and that i bought a gun…(though if i had actually killed him…those things could be part of the same completed action…just a side line here)

but again one must examine oneself …knowing ones scruples…and ask if the three things where there…(grave matter, full knowledge, full consent)…(also if one has for example principles form ones confessor …where they in play?)

also habit can come into play which can lessen culpability --but that is something to work out with ones confessor…

so if it was a matter that one decided with full consent to do the thing…or with full consent to get ready…etc …this can already be a mortal sin… even if one changes ones mind…

HOWEVER

It is GOOD that you stopped…and did not sin more…(if you sinned) --so there is a victory! and shows you are already on the way back to God even if you did commit a mortal sin.

So now – make a act of contrition out of love of God above all things…for remember he is God and he loves you! and we do not want to sin against his love!

and go to confession as soon as you reasonably can. in this case it may be the better course anyhow…but again i am not sure exactly what you are talking about…

but in anycase – Jesus is the Good Shepherd and he loves you…and is willing to take you on his shoulders and tend your wounds…

I should add though…that it may also have been the case that you lacked the three requirements for mortal sin in those other internal and external acts…so again judge as you can …knowing your scruples and OCD etc…and of course stick with a good confessor! (bearing in mind how thoughts can work with ocd jimmyakin.typepad.com/defensor_fidei/2005/04/a_crown_of_thor.html?cid=118867622 ) and it may be the case that you honestly did not think you were sinning gravely until you would get to Z …and thus may not have had the full knowledge and full consent needed…(for you saidalthough I pulled out of sinning) but i am not you i can not know what happened…

go forward …turn to Jesus in Prayer in any case…he came for us…and loves us…and we need to draw near to him…as sinners did when he ate and drank on earth…and he loved them and he will love us…so draw close…even if you committed a mortal sin…turn with love to him and know he loves you…

and if it is only scruples…only temptation…and you did not give full consent etc …still go to him with all your burdens…

the Good Shepherd!

Find a good priest that you feel comfortable and a spiritual counciler as well. They can guide you to help with your problems much better then anyone here could.

My friend, it is possible you are replacing one addiction (your previous one), with a new one- praying and thinking about God. Don’t get me wrong, it is great to do so. But it can become a compulsion or addiction.
