Actually, you need to check your diocesean web site. Many dioceses in the United States have ‘transferred’ the Ascension to the following Sunday (the 7th of Easter). For example, this is the case in the diocese of Richmond. Therefore while Mass is still offered on Thursday it is not the Holy Day of Obligation HERE. And when I go to Mass on that Sunday I will hear the readings for the Ascension. Since I pray the Liturgy of the Hours daily as well, this is NOT a happy thing for me but I offer it up.
However up in the diocese of Burlington (Vermont) the feast of the Ascension is NOT transferred to the Sunday. In that diocese which encompasses the entire state of Vermont, the Mass is held on the Holy Day (Thursday) or the evening before for the Vigil (Wednesday night after 4 p.m.). Some churches have Masses in the morning only, some have in the afternoon or evening only, some have more than one Mass. It depends. The very best thing to do is check your diocesean web site so you will know.

Here in the Philippines Ascension Day obligation is transferred to the following Sunday.

depends on your diocese and parish. here it is observed the 7th Sunday of Easter with the usual Mass times. While it is sometimes on Thursday, sometimes on Sunday, I’m reading your question as:New Catholic question, is there a special mass for ascension day? If there is, is it usually at night or in the morning?
“Is there a different structure (such as easter vigil) or added things (such as Holy Thursday) for the Mass of Ascension Day?”
If that is what you intended to say, the answer is no. It is like any other solemnity.
edit: Besides christmas, that is. But that is beside the point.

Like you, though I wasn’t sure exactly what Yishai was trying to ask. I think he’s wondering if there will be Masses available on that day at his local parish, and if so whether they will be held in the morning or the evening. But the answer to that depends on the individual church, and there is no way anyone on this forum can answer. He should call his parish, or just ask the next time he is there.

Ascension Day, like all solemnities, has its own propers and readings. For this solemnity I think its found in the Missal in the Proper of Seasons. These propers are used whether it is celebrated on the traditional Thursday or on a Sunday. Likewise, on the day or the previous evening (I don’t think this solemnity has a proper Vigil Mass).New Catholic question, is there a special mass for ascension day? There is one added thing: the Easter Candle is extinguished after the Gospel, as a symbol that Jesus ascended to the heaven.

I, too, have never seen that. It is my understanding that the Paschal Candle remains in the sanctuary, and is lit, until the end of Pentecost.Really? I’ve never seen that. Where is that in the rubrics?

The MR 2002 has a Vigil Mass but it has not yet been translated into English.
