When I went to mass on Ascension day the second reading was omitted. Is that ok?

You don’t say where you are located so I can’t tell – was this the Mass for the Ascension or was it the Mass for Thursday of the Sixth Week of Easter?
In most dioceses of the United States, the Ascension is celebrated on Sunday. If you go to Mass on the traditional Thursday you will be at a normal weekday Mass with one reading plus the gospel.
If you were at a Mass celebrating the Ascension then there should have been two readings plus the gospel.

It may have been the weekday Mass, not the Ascension Mass.

It was the ascension mass. I was in NYC that day and o followed the missal
