Ascension Observance in Canada

Happy Solemnity (for those east of Mountain Time! )

Knowing Ascension is not a Holy Day of Obligation in Canada, I would like to go to Mass at a local parish tomorrow, regardless.

Canada observes Ascension on the Sunday following, and the website for this parish has no explicit notice of an Ascension Mass… but I’m wondering if there’s any kind of celebration or acknowledgment of the Solemnity at all on Thursday, in Canada?

If the Ascension is celebrated on Sunday, then there would be no mention of a special Mass on Thursday because the day isn’t out of the ordinary.

In the US, some dioceses celebrate the solemnity on Thursday and some move it to Sunday. In the ones that move it to Sunday (like my own), Thursday is simply Thursday in the Sixth Week of Easter. Parishes celebrate normal weekday Masses at the normal times.

No, because the solmenity isn’t on Thursday. Thursday is an Easter Weekday if the Ascension is transferred to Sunday, May 12.

While I know your question pertains to the Ordinary Form, it may interest you to know that Extrordinary Form and Anglican Use Masses will still observe the Class I Solemnity on Thursday. If you have one of those nearby, they will be observing Ascension then.

Where are you located? The Benedictines near where I live celebrate Ascension on Thursday, and the Mass (ordinary form) and Liturgy of the Hours (monastic) on Thursday will be proper for Ascension.

You might also want to try a Ukrainian Catholic parish, if there are any near you that follow the Gregorian calendar.

There is no E.F. or A.U. Mass within walking or reasonable driving distance around here. Thank you for the ideas, though!

I am in Nova Scotia. There are no Benedictines around here, and the Eastern Catholics only get a priest once every two weeks on a Sunday.
