So I’m in France right now and I just realized that the holy day of obligation might not be transfered to the nearest Sunday. Can anyone enlighten me about how it works with French bishops in charge?

I do not know if they have transferred it as some have done in the US (only some places in USA is it transferred).
Perhaps find a Catholic Church --where you will be -there and find out

But I do not know French.

Thanks, bookcat. Can’t track down a church with a mass I can get to, so I.can’t make it today, sadly. Luckily, I should be back in.London on the first and the London archdiocese does transfer it.

I live in France. To my knowledge, Ascension is always on Thursday, no matter where you are in France. That is certainly the case in the French (arch)dioceses I’m familiar with: Paris, Nice, Fréjus-Toulon, Arras, Cambrai, Aix-en-Provence and Lille (where I live). In fact, today is a legal holiday nationwide so I have difficulty believing the obligation has transferred to Sunday anywhere in the country.
If you are in Paris, you still have the option of attending Mass at the Sacré-Cœur Basilica on Montmartre. They have a Mass at 10:00pm (a little more than two hours from now). It is stated on their French-language site that despite its late hour this Mass is indeed for Ascension. Unfortunately, this same info does not appear on their English site.

I love that basilica. Have even spent the night there a couple of times for night Adoration
I believe their 10:00pm Mass, celebrated every day of the week (!), is the latest Mass available in Paris.

I’ll have to use the subway, but I can hopefully make that. That being said, I’m not very good with public transit and tend to screw it up. Since I will be in London on the first when they celebrate it do I still have to attend today since France has the celebration today?

As I understand things - it goes by where you are on the day of the Holy Day. So since this is not a local feast day -but a Universal Holy Day – one I believe would go to Mass if one is there on that day.
(there can be exceptions like impossibility, dispensations (or perhaps certain difficulties being too much to go) etc…but normally one would go…)
(if someone from France were in your hometown today -they would not need to go…since it is transferred there)

If you tell me where you are (via PM if you prefer), I can get you there on the Métro (subway). I lived in Paris for 2½ years, didn’t have a car when I was there, and thus am more than just fleetingly familiar with public transportation in the city.
