The Syro Malabar Catholic Church has “Ash Monday” (I dont know if that is the name) but some of its dioceses continue with Ash Wednesday. I don’t understand 😦 the need for an Ash Monday.

In the Eastern churches, Great Lent begins on Clean Monday, on the seventh week before Pascha. For the most part, the imposition of ashes is not a part of Eastern tradition, but there are exceptions, such as the Maronites.

Observing both the Monday and the Wednesday would seem to be a mixing of rites, but IANACL.

Thanks. We at the SMC also have the imposition of ashes. But the observation on Monday and Wednesday is a sign of disunity in our church. 😦
