Ash Wednesday: will you go about your day WITHOUT washing your forehead?

Even though this is an old thread (I remember posting on it last year), I guess I’ll respond again.

I wore my ashes all day yesterday, just went about my normal routine. I didn’t wash them off at bedtime, so I washed them off in the shower this morning.

Just a general comment and this is just my own observation (and my daughter’s too), but it appears that children deliberately wipe ashes off, fidget more to inadvertently wipe the ashes off, or maybe the oil in young skin makes them fade faster. My daughter commented on that when we picked all of them up from school, that hubby and I still had dark ashes on her forehead, while almost nobody at school still had any visible ashes. I gently teased her and told her it was because we older folks are much bigger sinners, so we had to have much darker ashes on our foreheads :), but she was correct. Hubby and I chaperoned a field trip after Mass with our little guy yesterday (yes, I know, that is perhaps a little odd that a Catholic school would schedule a field trip on Ash Wednesday, but I guess it was the only available time to see the play, so…) and not one of those 50 or so first-graders had visible ashes anymore by 11:30 when we left school to go on the field trip.

Voted yes, but it was considerably easier for me since I didn’t get to go till 7:30. After than, my fiance and I went to red lobster, then it was basically bed time.
