In Catholic, we celebrate Ash Wednesday. The faithful will have ash on their forheads. Do you celebrate Ash Wednesday?

In my Anglican church we will have a Sung Mass this evening with the Imposition of Ashes. There was also a short service with prayers and ashing yesterday evening, a Low Mass (ditto) early this morning, and walk-in imposition of ashes all day today.
 
Do I ??
Personally , no !! It not my way of life !!
The one who celebrate this , feel free ,
I don’t mind , why would/should I !!

Rose I didn’t know the Anglicans were marked with ashes on Ash Wednesday, thanks for sharing that.
 
Yes, it’s one of those practices that fell away at the Deformation and was returned to prominence as a result of the 19th century Catholic Revival and the 20th century Liturgical Movement. Today, I am aware of only one very low-church parish in my diocese that does not observe the imposition of ashes at its Ash Wednesday service.

Come to think of it, I remember visiting my friend’s United church in elementary school on Ash Wednesday. Ashes were imposed there too, but not made from palms. Instead, we wrote things like “poverty” and “hunger” on pieces of paper which were then burned. :rolleyes: I remember my mother allowing me to go but telling me not to receive the ashes since we were Catholics!

I don’t judge people their belief ,
thatwould wrong !!

People who said I’m wrong because
I don’t belief in religion ,
do they have the right to judge as a bad person ??

Really? So if I followed a religion that required me to practice ritual cannibalism, you wouldn’t condemn that as wrong?

No. You don’t cease to be a moral person just because you don’t believe.

I didn’t say any of that, I’m just noting that you really want everyone to know that you’re a non believer. Attention craving perhaps.

Nobody is the same !!
But to be honest , I disagree on every religion ,
so , basically I have condemn them ,
just as catholic belief will do ,
because killing people for such matters is wrong !!
It’s murder first degree !!

I think you’re asking, what qualifies as bad or immoral behavior? The seven cardinal sins are lust, gluttony, greed, sloth, wrath, envy and pride. I think those are a good guideline.
 
Who decides those 7 cardinals are sins ??
How they are Investigated and settled ??
Based on what , how , why ??

We have two Ash Wednesday services: a service for children, and a service for adults and youth.
 
We had the Holy Eucharist and Imposition of Ashes available at three services today. I was looking over the Scripture readings that were said in the Catholic Church and the ones that were said at our Church and they were a little different.

We use the following Scripture verses…

Isaiah 58: 1-12 (My Church used this instead of the Joel 2:1-2,12-17)
Psalm 103: 8-14
2 Corinthians 5:20b-6:10
Matthew 6:1-6, 16-21
Psalm 51:1-18

I wish we had had one for children… the kids sitting ahead of me made such a ruckus with coloring with markers and talking that I could not hear well. 😦

I think I will suggest it for next year.

As a former Episcopalian I am wondering if the church has changed the confession. The one you posted is different from the one I remember. As I recall it went like this (Almighty God Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, Maker of all things, Judge of all men, We acknowledge and bewail our manifold sins and wickedness, Which we from time to time most grieviously have committed, by thought, word and deed, Against thy Divine Majesty, Provoking most justly thy wrath and indignation against us. We do earnestly repent and are heartily sorry for these our misdoings: The rememberance of them is grievous unto us: The burden of them is intolerable. Have mercy upon us, Have mercy upon us most merciful Father: For thy Son our Lord Jesus Christ’s sake. Forgive us all that is past: And grant that we may ever hereafter serve and please thee in newness of life. To the honor and glory of thy Name: Through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.

I believe that the Anglican Use Catholic parishes still use the above confession.

Please let me know if there has been a change, as the one at your parish was similar to the Catholic confession at Mass.

By the way I was taking it out of my Saint Augustine’s pray book so the caps etc. seem a little odd.
