I was told that the hymn Ashes by Tom Conry has a heresy in it but I cant find what it could be. Do any of you know?

“We rise again from ashes to create ourselves anew.”

This line is not right; we do not create OURSELVES anew - Christ does. This is Pelagianism, which says that, if I remember correctly, that the grace from God does not save us. What saves us is our free will, and our free will only, according to this heresy.

Heresy is a very specific term that ONLY the Church may apply. One is perfectly able to advise their Bishop of a concern, but the laity is not free to make this determination on their own.

Source?

Of course only a Bishop can declare that a person is guilty of heresy. But that doesn’t mean that “regular” Catholics are not capable of recognizing heresy, especially in works of music or in books.

I would say it does.

As to research, feel free to do your own.

Their is better things to worry about then a typo, but you can go ahead and write a letter to the pope .👍
