What do they do with the ashes after mass?

I don’t think you are stupid. I assume you are asking about the left over ashes, Right?
I hope someone corrects me if I’m wrong here, but I believe they bury them. I forgot to turn my blessed palms into the Church this year, so my plans are to burn them in a container & then bury them.🤷

OH! I think I ask at Mass today.😊

Ask about using your old palms at the Easter Vigil.
I forgot last year to collect the old ones from around the house in time for Ash Wednesday, so my priest used them as kindling in the Easter fire! 😃
 
They can also keep them for next year. But probably they would bury them in the ground, since they are holy by virtue of the blessing invoked upon them by the priest.
