Lol an online survey and a quote from some sociologist at a third rate university. Seems legit.

Kind of an icky fact but:

huffingtonpost.com/2014/06/04/infidelity-and-religion_n_5447526.html

Religious denominations were well represented… surprising thing to me is that the nones were only %3.4 on the site but %16 of the general population. Why is that:confused:?
Oh, I get it now. The Huffington Post is perhaps running this in order to discredit religion in an attempt to show that non-believers do not cheat.

But I don’t don’t their numbers are high as 16%. I think a lot of people in the 16% are not genuine non-believers or atheists.

Those who are devoutly religious are more likely to look online and seek anonymity when looking to stray.

People who are not known for being devoutly religious in their personal lives are more free to make and accept inappropriate passes to and from people in real life, and have less need for an online philanderer site.

Overall though, the marital stability of atheists in the US is interesting. Atheist couples are less likely to marry than religious couples, but once they do marry, they have a lower risk of divorce than Protestants, Jews, and Muslims. In most recent studies that I’ve seen, Catholics, Lutherans, and nonbelievers have the lowest risk of divorce (and they’re usually within the margin of error of each other).

My personal theory is that it comes down more to education and socioeconomic status than religion. Catholics have higher rates of college education and a higher average income than Protestants, as do atheists. Those two things make a world of difference in divorce rates.

What does it matter what their agenda is if the statistics are accurate?

👍 people who don’t believe in marriage or morals do not have to do anything in secret.

I think it is worthwhile noting this correction the huffington post added in
CORRECTION: A previous headline on this article suggested that Ashley Madison’s survey results were reflective of the general population, a conclusion that is not supported by the data. We regret the error. This article has also been updated with additional information about the survey’s respondents.
Essentially meaning it is worthless for telling us anything useful or meaningful. 🤷

Or in other words, this.

People who are not known for being devoutly religious in their personal lives are more free to make and accept inappropriate passes to and from people in real life, and have less need for an online philanderer site.

Thats an interesting thought. I have seen these statistics before, but did not realize that Catholics and Atheists have higher rates of education and income. Do you know if this is true for Lutherans as well?

I ran this statistic by my husband and he said it’s absolutely true. In fact, he doubted that Catholics would be more likely to be highly educated then Lutherans.
I think it’s because where we are from, Catholics tend to be Catholic in Name Only around here.
But seriously practicing Catholics tend to be Catholic because of the historicity and the philosophy of the Church.
Lutherans have a unique cultural demographic (scandinavian and German) that emphasizes a higher level of education.

 That is not what I said and it is extremely rude to twist my words like that. More to the point, how does doing it in secret reflect believing in marriage or morals?

I said that if you are going to make a pass at someone, who will it be, the girl who has a gold cross and a bible in her hand, or the one that doesn’t? Probably the one that doesn’t. So if the girl with the gold cross and bible wants to cheat, she has to go online. Same with men.

This is an unscientific poll, not a true survey. About all that can be inferred from this poll is that people from a variety of religious affiliations use the site. Any inferences beyond that are worthless.

I read the article a few days ago.

The survey does nothing more than report on answers from people who use Ashley Madison, and is absolutely meaningless in any other context. And that’s assuming that the people who answered the survey are telling the truth.

Whatever. 🤷

Here’s a better way of phrasing it:

“X% of people who chose to respond to Ashley Madison’s survey chose to self-report their religion as…” My guess is that even the company itself has a more sophisticated market-data strategy than to rely on surveys like that one.

And if I were using Ashley Madison, I would most certainly lie about everything to begin with. To put it another way, there is no honor amongst thieves.

Basically all it did was get some free advertizing.
