Aside from Easter Sunday, do you do anything else special meal wise for the Triduum?

Since we met during Easter week, my husband and I have always had lamb on Holy Thursday. Easter Sunday we are at my dad’s house and they have tons of all sorts of food and about 30 people in and out all afternoon to eat and visit. So Holy Thursday, either before or after Mass, is our time to have our own tradition.

This year I am making roasted lamb shanks and we are eating them with unleavened bread, minted yogurt, cucumber, and salad. With fresh hummus and tabbouleh on the side. No appetizers or dessert, we are still in Lent and don’t want to make it a fancy thing. We will have some friends over to eat with us then all go to Mass together in the evening. Sort of a quasi seder meal, but not really. 😉

So - aside from Easter Sunday, do you have any other meal traditions this week?

I am meeting up with some friends for dinner before thrusday night mass and then friday after service we are meeting at a friends house for a rosary and watching the movie the passion of the christ together. I think about 20 to 30 people will show up. Its a great way for all of us young adults to celebrate holy week together before everyone goes home for easter.

Please, will you adopt me???😃

WG, I used to do the same thing with the not-quite-a-seder on Holy Thursday. I’d always have some sort of lamb with rosemary, wild rice, asparagus and matzo. Nowadays, I have to go to my singing job early, so there’s no time to cook a real dinner, so DH & I usually get something separately.

On Good Friday, I try not to eat at all until dinner, which comes right after the 3:00 Liturgy of the Passion - we’re dying by then! We usually go out for pizza and salad - that’s the quickest!

And after the Easter Vigil, we go straight to Baskin Robbins for ice cream - it’s been a long, dessert-less lent!

One of my fairly rare Easters that I’m not spending with the folks, so it’ll be low-key.

Dad usually does a spit-roast of pork on the day before Easter (not enough time on Easter Sunday itself) so it’s eaten hot on Saturday, and cold on Sunday - deee-licious either way!

I’ll indulge in some hot cross buns, maybe not on Good Friday, they’re a bit too much of a ‘treat’ for that, but probably on Saturday. And possibly a few choccy eggs as well.

On Easter Saturday my family does a crawfish boil. In addition we have fried catfish and boudain balls (my personal favorites) plus every kind of dessert you can imagine.

Only a few days away.
