Ask an Atheist

I wanna ask an Atheist. I noticed many times reading atheists posts and famous atheists writings a strange contradiction. They always oppose God existance on the ground of skepticism but it seems that Atheists are not willing to use same skepticism on the issue of science and scientific reasoning, which to me would be logical.

There seems a strange double standard among atheism. Use the most vigorous possible skepticism on anything trying to prove God but ignore skepticism almost complitely on issues such as empirical evidence and their power for example. Empirical evidence has never been successfully proven be the only or even close to the best standard of evaluating facts. It is just a wild assumption from which the whole of science as an example is based upon.

What I find most terrible is that often atheists attack those who ask this question. They will tell a person that they are stupid for being skeptical. Themselves use the same standard in evaluating religion and even worse often they don’t even understand religion. For example Harris, Dawkins have no idea what religion is all about.

Why this double standard? And why not proof the position of empirical evidence?

(Sorry the last question is impossible, you cannot prove it empirically because then you have the same logical problem as: God wrote the bible to be true and infallible. How do you know God exists? Because bible tells me so.)
Athiests should know that once they have found absolute proof of a god, in this life, they have created an idol.

Repeat after me:

“Atheism is the lack of belief in a god, nothing more.”
Do you actually believe this?

If so, if it a dogma of yours?

Do you think that we believe in “a god”, instead of “the God”?

Do you know the difference between “a god” and “the God”?

Since by your definition I’m an atheist, as I don’t believe in a god, can I get one of those cool “Why believe is a god?” tee-shirts with matching lapel button, so I can be cool like the rest of you “sophisti-cats” at the local atheist’s club meetings held at the Unitarian church every third Thursday (in honor of Thor, or course)?

Do you actually believe this?
It’s an etymologically justified use of the word, which I think most accurately describes what I mean when I say it. Seeing as people like you who know very little but speak very loudly try to tell ME what it means to be an atheist, I found it necessary to explain this automatically in every post by way of a signature.
If so, if it a dogma of yours?
You’ve said “if” too many times in this sentence, the second one should probably be “is”. Were you a product of christian home schooling? (if you hadn’t been so harsh on others I wouldn’t have pointed this out, but hey you deserve it)

I don’t think so. It’s a word that is now part of English, a living language, so common usage may change. People continue to study the history of words as well, so that may change upon further research. My usage of the word may change accordingly as well.
Do you think that we believe in “a god”, instead of “the God”?
I think you believe in one of many concepts of god, which you believe to be “the God”. Just like any other monotheist who believes in a different concept of god.
Do you know the difference between “a god” and “the God”?
I think I know what you believe the difference to be. Is it basically “a god” implies being one of many whereas “the God” means the one and only God?

I can only hope you’re pretending to be this childish, look here’s your pacifier back, why don’t you just have a nap? I think it is pretty obvious that “the God” you refer to is still “a god” even if in your mythos it is the only god.

Maybe one day you’ll make an argument.

I have no problem being corrected. I’m sorry that you do.

Yeah, you’re quite right. That second “if” should have been an “is”. That was a case of really tired eyes, and nothing to do with my schooling, though, having been a typically underserved California public school attendee I agree that I’m rather unusual for being able to string more the six words together coherently. 🙂

You don’t “think” it’s a dogma of yours? Is that your contention?

How is it not a dogma of yours?

Very good! 🙂

You’ve been paying attention. Excellent!

Not that you couldn’t have figured that out yourself, of course.

The problem is, though, that you don’t believe that there actually IS any difference between a “professed” monotheist and an “our god is the right god” polytheist, do you?

(( That last sentence [or mine] is a question to “Ask an Atheist”, by the way, in expectation of an answer. ))

I don’t argue, my “friend”. I inform, and get informed.

I’m sure your “ilk” would love us evil “demented believers” to “go to sleep” so that your “master race” can more easily take over the world, but that’s just not going to happen. 🙂

(( Though, we are entering a period in history when our number will rapidly and sharply diminish, and various persecutions will be inflicted on us, due to our intransigence, which will make it appear that the unGodly have “won”, though their [the unGodly’s] “winning” will be short lived and replaced with near extermination by the “wrongly faithful” invaders. But that’s a whole separate thread, I dare say. ))

Your sense of the “obvious” is in need of a tune-up, by the way.

Just as there is “one universe”, there is one God. But, that makes no sense to the senseless in the realm of “Godliness”, so I’ll leave you to your misconceptions.

But, thanks for keeping us informed as to the perversions of thought that are the contents of the atheist’s mind! That’s very much appreciated. 🙂

And, by the way, I don’t mind having the contents of my mind being called “perverse” as it surely is when compared to the mind of an atheist. I appreciate the contrast.

This is great! Yes, I agree, if more Christians were Christlike, we would have heaven on earth.

This post does not sound like something an atheist would wright.
I would classify myself now as an agnostic, which as a label, or idea seems to annoy just about everyone. How I got this point is a long story(and not required for this thread, nor asked for).

I don’t think however, that my “position” on spiritual matters really affects my above statment, plenty of athiests would say the same thing(though perhaps not the militant ones). 🙂
