Excuse me, I have no idea why you are talking to me, Jack. I wasn’t addressing you in any way, certainly not calling you judgmental, etc. I was responding to LoudLivingDogma with a humorous "Uh-oh, you’ve mentioned jeans, now the world will go nuts here" post.

Meant to be a joke, even to the 'left anything ‘unCOVERED’ part.

Next time, hon, if you feel I’m addressing you, how about you PM me? I could have told you I wasn’t and you wouldn’t have had to come on at all. . .

This is the most important statement in the article. I would have hoped Father Zuhlsdorf would know better than assume about that which he does not know. He made one of the most common of mistakes, listening to one side of the story and assuming that was all. The priest that made this homily, and told her not to wear a veal may have had legitimate pastoral reasons that went well beyond dress, style, traditionalism, or anything that is being assumed. The fact is, he does not know. We do not know. Judging another’s actions is dicey at best, but should never be attempted from ignorance. The catechism warns us how to prevent rash judgement in this situation.

The priest that said something, on the other hand, is most likely unmarried. If so, then it is to be expected he has not learned to never, never, never, criticize a woman’s head-wear.

Very much so. Everyone will pay attention to the smell of the woman warring veal, rather than Mass.

At my church in England, one older lady sits near the back and always wears a full black lace veil. I always notice her, but not in a bad way.

I have no idea why she feels she needs to wear a veil, but no-one objects!
 
I´m a bit surprised to hear this from venice, but yes, it´s changing. In germany it´s far more present to mind “take your hat off” than keeping in mind that women never went without aything on their heads in the past.
 
I live in TX. It’s common to wear jeans here. If I wear mine to mass (& I practically live in jeans), they’re clean & untorn.

I also wear my mantilla to Sunday mass or any other day I attend - or at the very least, I cover my head with a scarf or shawl.

This old soldier covers her head out of respect for the Holy Presence.

I’d be very careful about judging others you don’t know based solely on their clothing.

I did this once to a man who was wearing jeans. I did not say this to his face of course but I thought the same thing your son thought. Later on, I learned this man was homeless due to the downturn in the economy coupled with medical bills. He was able to find a job later on but could barely afford an apartment so he remained homeless. He still made the effort to attend mass.

So some people may not seem care but for others it’s the best clothing they’ve got, especially if they are homeless and don’t exactly have a wardrobe of more formal clothing.
 
This bear will wear a headscarf 🧕 worn babushka style.

I usually do this on my bad hair days and no amount of brushing and styling can get it to behave.

Yes, my hubby tells me that sometimes my wearing shawls to cover my head give the appearance of being Muslim & that he is concerned that someone may mistakenly harbor negative thoughts or perhaps even try to exact some violence towards me for the appearance of it. The thought has occurred to me before (I do have some Middle Eastern ancestry on both sides of the family), but I do it anyways…

Some of us don’t have oodles of money to be buying the latest trends in clothing so we buy what we can afford that is long-lasting & can have versatile wear. Hence, I wear jeans. 😃
 
I got South Asian ancestry and also sometimes mistaken for Muslim because of my ethnicity. It’s not too far off as my ancestors were Muslim.

That’s a good point, but these are folks we know. They are school parents, they drive nice cars, they wear blingy new jeans. They wear jeans week in and week out.
I know that for those in poverty and experiencing homelessness that church clothes are the least of their worries.
I’m talking about upper middle class Americans who wear their jeans as a fashion statement and don’t understand that they are casual wear.
