FYI:

  • And fight in the way of Allah with those who fight with you, and do not exceed the limits, surely Allah does not love* those who exceed the limits.
Is that proof of an emotion or what? 🤷
Then you evidently do not know what religion really is. You must have some preconceived, man made notion of it to make that statement.

What did islam bring to the world that Christianity did not already offer? I understand that there is no Father son/daughter relationship with the islamic understanding of God, so that certainly reduces what Christianity offers in a personal relationship with God.

what else? i know the sword has been a big part of it since the inception of islam. What more good is offered, specifically?

I wanted to briefly reply to your post with 2 quotes, and inshaaAllah (God willing) I will reply in more detail at a later time.

“I have always held the religion of Muhammad in high estimation because of its wonderful vitality. It is the only religion which appears to me to possess that assimilating capacity to the changing phase of existence which can make itself appeal to every age. I have studied him - the wonderful man and in my opinion for from being an anti-Christ, he must be called the Saviour of Humanity. I believe that if a man like him were to assume the dictatorship of the modern world, he would succeed in solving its problems in a way that would bring it the much needed peace and happiness: I have prophesied about the faith of Muhammad that it would be acceptable to the Europe of tomorrow as it is beginning to be acceptable to the Europe of today.”
-George Bernard Shaw

I wanted to know the best of the life of one who holds today an undisputed sway over the hearts of millions of mankind… I became more than ever convinced that it was not the sword that won a place for Islam in those days in the scheme of life. It was the rigid simplicity, the utter self-effacement of the Prophet the scrupulous regard for pledges, his intense devotion to his friends and followers, his intrepidity, his fearlessness, his absolute trust in God and in his own mission. These and not the sword carried everything before them and surmounted every obstacle. When I closed the second volume (of the Prophet’s biography), I was sorry there was not more for me to read of that great life.
-Mahatma Ghandi

Religion is a man-made notion. Love is love, no matter how you try to demystify it.

Why are you justifying Islam all of a sudden? As if it was really God who wrote love in the Quran.

I don’t know. Like JMJ_coder said himself, God does not have emotions the way we humans understand them.
but the fact that your scriptures mentioned love is evident that these Gods have some degree of emotions into them. whether or not you understand them.

No. Allah doesnt need to lie to us and he wouldnt ask us to worship idols. May be if you have anexample i would give you a more better answer.

Thanks
I gave you an example but I guess you somehow missed it.

And you didn’t answer my question.

The question that I am asking is whether or not that Allah’s transcendency is superior to his word, basically that if he wanted to he can lie to those whom he has created and make them do whatever according to his own good pleasure.

And if his transcendency does take precedence over his word how could you ever know that he wouldn’t ask you to worship idols?

God of Christianity + God of Islam = Gods

same thing with scriptures
Laa ilaaha illa Allah.

There is Only One. Regardless of what you call the religion–Judaism, Christianity, or Islam, the God, the Only God, is the same.

Hello,

I can’t speak for Islam, but for Catholicism - love is not an emotion, it is an act of the will, a theological virtue, and a Name for God.

I have started a new thread on this topic:

To include christianity means you have to acknowledge Jesus as God.

Muslims get their beliefs from the Qur’an–which they believe was revealed by God Almighty. That said, the Qur’an says that God will preserve it.
Sister Amy,

As-salamu 'alaikee

The idea that Muhammed’s Qur’an has been preserved uncorrupted is a common fallacy among the Islamic community. Some Muslim scholars readily acknowledge the corruption of the Qur’anic text, as this article with its appendices shows:

The Compilation of The Qur’an

'alaikee?

That article is not written by a Muslim, nor does it rely particularly strongly on Muslim scholars. I’m actually pretty familiar with the compilation of the Qur’an. Frankly it doesn’t make any sense to believe that the only group of people who had memorized the Qur’an were all killed in the same battle, when Muslims who had memorized the whole thing were spread out across the Muslim world.

You can read about it without the incorrect and misleading commentary of Sam Shamoun on this site: youngmuslims.ca/online_library/books/ulum_al_quran/
Chapter 2 deals with transmission and collection of the Qur’an.

The preservation of the Qur’an first and foremost is in the hearts of the Muslims.

Mohammad himself failed to have the Quran compiled into a single book. That fact alone is reason enough to suspect the Koran’s divine claims, let alone its accuracy.

Failed? Who ever said that was his job? You?

Did Jesus write a book down? Did he fail to do that? Does that make you suspect his authenticity of a message from God?

'alaikee?
'alaikee or 'alaiki (“on you” - feminine, Iraqi dialect)

How do you say it?

Sam’s article is well written, so sorry, I disagree with your statement that his commentary is “incorrect and misleading”.

It is customary to say as-salaamu alaikum which is the plural, rather than feminine or masculine. Even if the greeting is to a single person, the salaam is typically given in plural form–i.e., peace be upon all of you.

(and if you were to use the feminine form, it would be a short “e” and not a long one at the end of the word.)

Hi Amy and Tomshaikh,

Salaam, and all that good stuff.

I am curious as to whether you good people have an opinion about the site at muslimrefusenik.com/ . Irshad Manji is a believing Muslim woman who believes in gay rights and women’s rights.

I’m also curious as to whether you had ever read the work of the Spanish Muslim philosopher Ibn-Rushd, and whether you had an opinion about his work found here muslimphilosophy.com/books/taf-taf.pdf
I think that means “refutation of the refutation”. I studied Arabic at the University of Utah, but have forgotten most of it. Ha! Anyway, he’s the inspiration for Irshad Manji.

I appreciate the kind way you both approach questions and look forward to a productive conversation.

Shalom, go in peace, Salaam…

LaMar

'alaikee (whether a long ee, short e, or i) is acceptable as an English transliteration for the Arabic. You can, for example, see it used here by “Shahadah” for a female: albaseerah.org/forum/printthread.php?t=1967&page=5&pp=20
(“as salamu alaikee, ukti” or “peace be on you, my sister”)

'alaika is specific usage for a male. 'alaikum is used for the plural, but can also be used as a general usage, as you mentioned.

I am a Chaldean Catholic. Arabic is a language that my people adopted, though we’ve never lost our Aramaic language, which we continue to use for Church officially. When the Muslims invaded our country Iraq and slaughtered many of our monks and forefathers, we became dominated under their rule, and it became necessary for us to know the Arabic language in order live in a Muslim-dominated society.

But, despite what you Muslims did to us and continue to do to us, we still love you 🙂

God bless,

Rony

God bless,

As-Salaam-O-Alikee, Coz you are non-muslim instead of Alikyum (May Be This Is Your Answer) Lots of people didn’t say full salaam to Non-Muslims coz its not required thats why they say Alikee instead of Alikum or Alikyum.Hope this answer you

Please provide prove and evidence that muslims did that on your above paragraph. Any website or book to read or just your forefathers say so.
