Asked to join a Bible study group at work

I’m very excited about this, actually. I was talking to a few coworkers last week, and the one commented…about the regional radio stations. I started talking about how I miss certain Catholic stations that were aired in PA, but that I like Charles Stanley…then we started talking s’more…and then I was asked to join them in a Bible study. No denominational brainwashing. Just discussing the Bible for like 30 minutes at lunch.

So…do you think it’s a good idea? My only concern, is that I think the group is made of mainly non Catholics, and I don’t want the wrong ‘spins’ being put on certain passages…ie: Jesus giving Peter the keys to the kingdom, etc…(Protestants have a different understanding of this, as we know)

Anyways…I’m going to give it a try, but if it even remotely teeters on changing verses, or putting one’s spin on certain verses, etc…I’m out.

HOWEVA…

One could look at this as an opportunity to witness for the Catholic faith…so, maybe I should look at it this way, too. But, again…supposedly, one of this group’s rules, is to not discuss denominations.

That is the perfect perspective on things. I accompany my BF to his church as an observer only ( He is SDA) and I sit in on their Bible class. I have been known to put my 2 cents in at times. They know better than to cross me

I was involved with a Bible study at work a few years back that had some Catholic participants. No problems. I know our differences come out more on a forum such as this, but in our studies we usually discovered that we had a lot of common ground.

Our studies, however, were primarily expositions of whole books of the Bible. We didn’t get into discussions of systematic theology very much, unless we came upon a passage that was heavily theological.

I say as long as you are strong in your faith, know what you believe as a Catholic, and are not easily swayed or bullied, you could be a great witness to your Catholic faith. I think it really depends upon the others involved. It could be a great blessing or could be a real nightmare. You know these people, you should have a gut instinct about it.

If I were you, I would make up my mind ahead of time that I would not be drawn into argument. If it seems to go in a way that is anti-Catholic in tone, just excuse yourself from the studies.
