Five and a half years ago, I did just this except it was before a Mass during the week. “Can I help you with anything, Father?” Turns out that he was looking for someone to open and close the chapel for weekday Mass as well as prepare the elements of the liturgy. Six months later, I became head sacristan.
Never hesitate to ask. No matter how well organized a parish seems, there is always a need for another pair of helping hands.
God bless you for being open to your parish’s needs. On the rare occasions that someone steps forward here, they usually have one or two activities in mind and will not consider others regardless of what the pastor is actually seeking. As a result we have some groups with too many volunteers and others where three people are doing the work of fifteen.
