Hey y’all! Thanks for taking time to read this thread and try to help me out!

My boyfriend is Catholic, just like me. Except I’ve always gone to Mass ever since my mother and sisters and I converted when I was seven. I don’t think my boyfriend has gone to Mass but a few times, and definately doesn’t know as much as he should. I pray for him all the time. I pray that God will lead him home. Whenever I imagine him coming to Mass, i get a nice feeling. There is nothing I want more than to hold hands with him in Mass and learn about and grow closer to God together. I pray for him and this cause a lot, but sometimes I feel as if it is not enough.

Is it a sin if I ask others to pray for him? Sort of like it’s wrong to ask for money?

If you and your boyfriend are that far apart from each other when it comes to the role of religion in your lives then you shouldn’t be dating, because that difference in your values will become a serious problem very quickly. You can pray for him of course, but God also expects you to use your head. Replace him with someone who holds hands with you in Mass and learns about and grows closer to God together with you.

When you do break up with him, just make sure he knows that your reason for ending the relationship really does boil down to the huge canyon between your spiritual life and his, and this does not bode well for the future when the question of marriage eventually comes up, and most of all the question of having & raising children.

Because for one thing, if he doesn’t go to Mass much, chances are he’s not really into the Church’s moral teaching all that much, he’s probably OK with using artificial contraception, he’s probably OK with premarital sex, and he probably isn’t too keen on having a lot of children. Is that a difference in values that you want to deal with now, or would you prefer to wait and let it become an issue in a relationship you’ve already invested a lot of time in, or worse wait until after you’re already married?

And when you do get married, wouldn’t it be nice to have a church wedding, and for him to receive communion worthily together with you, and to say family rosaries together with your children? Can you honestly say any of this could be possible when you have this huge red flag staring you in the face?

This boy is not The One for you. By ending it now you will avoid a lot of disappointing compromises and a lot of heartache later.

It is never a sin to ask others to pray for a friend, boyfriend, husband, etc. The important thing is that you pray for God’s Will to be done in all things. When you pray for your boyfriends soul make sure you’re also praying for the grace to accept God’s will whatever it may be. Your boyfriend might come back to the Church and find that he has a calling to the religious life; anything can happen so while you pray for the coversion of your boyfriend also pray for the gace to be detached from earthly things.

What you’re asking for is a good thing, but always remember that what God wills is better than what we could ever dream of and so in the end we always pray for His will to be done.

Excuse me. I found your answer very rude. Yes, I know that this was a possibility (having someone say something like you did), but I’d like to point out that you don’t know my boyfriend. We’ve already discussed sex, and he’s okay with waiting. He is against abortion, and does pray regularly. I appreciate you looking out for me, but you are not the person to decide on whether or not he is The One for me.
