There are things I have experienced and done that I feel very unsettled about. I have gone to confession for those things that need to be confessed, and I have confidence that they are forgiven. So this is more about life in general.

I’d certainly like to be clued in to those things God wants to bring to my attention. “Look right here, you could do XYZ instead of ABC and selfishness!” Really, I have a feeling I’d need his prayers to face all of it.

I’ve heard we can ask our guardian angels to help us to remember and to forget things. Also, we can ask him to point out areas we need to improve or ‘let go of’ in our personalities and behaviors. That he who knows us better than anyone, other than God. I want to be open to his prompting including any mortification or encouragement. (I am not talking about New Age claptrap nonsense, but a real being. God has appointed one to each and every one of us.)

Have any of you asked this of your guardian angel, and if so did it help?

Amazing to find this thread … I’ve also been thinking this week to start praying to my Guardian Angel more … I need some help along my spiritual journey and I think he would be the perfect answer … so your thread struck me as a real good idea.

Praying …

O most Faithful companion, appointed by God to be my guide and protector, and who art ever at my side, what thanks can I offer thee for thy faithfulness and love, and for all the benefits which thou hast conferred upon me? Thou watchest over me in sleep; thou consolest me when I am sad; thou liftest me up when I fall; thou avertest the dangers that threaten me; thou preparest me for the future; thou withdrawest me from evil and excitest me to good; thou exhortest me to penance when I yield to temptation; and reconcilest me to my offended God. Long since should I have been cast into hell, unless by thy prayers thou hadst averted from me the anger of God. Leave me not, then, I entreat thee; but still comfort me in adversity, restrain me in prosperity, defend me in danger, assist me in temptations, lest at any time I fall a victim to them. Offer to God my prayers and groanings, and all my religious exercises, and obtain for me the great gift of final perseverance, and the grace to die in the friendship of my Creator, and so to enter into life everlasting.
Amen.

Katherine438, you are a darling! Thank you for the encouragement to have the confidence to ask my Guardian Angel.

To be shy with asking him is kinda silly.🙂

I wish you well along your path and will remember you in my prayers … I think you are on a good road … and I’m right behind you.

From the catechism … in case one questions guardian angels … nothing is exactly mentioned about guardian angels … but there is information in the catechism about the angels protecting us all …

IN BRIEF

350 Angels are spiritual creatures who glorify God without ceasing and who serve his saving plans for other creatures: “The angels work together for the benefit of us all” (St. Thomas Aquinas, STh I, 114, 3, ad 3).

351 The angels surround Christ their Lord. They serve him especially in the accomplishment of his saving mission to men.

352 The Church venerates the angels who help her on her earthly pilgrimage and protect every human being.

353 God willed the diversity of his creatures and their own particular goodness, their interdependence and their order. He destined all material creatures for the good of the human race. Man, and through him all creation, is destined for the glory of God.

354 Respect for laws inscribed in creation and the relations which derive from the nature of things is a principle of wisdom and a foundation for morality.

From Holy Wisdom:

“the highest perfection is not to desire to be always suffering, but to be content to suffer all that by God’s providence shall befall us… Let a soul, therefore, seriously practice that mortification of mortifications, which is pure internal prayer, and with it join a diligent good use of those mortifications attending her state of life, or sent her otherwise from God, not omitting those most efficacious internal mortifications by acts of humiliation and annihilation of herself; and so doing, she will have little reason to complain of want of exercise of this virtue. For corporal austerities do not by the excess of them, but by the fitness and proportion to the soul’s present disposition, perfectionate an internal liver; so that some infirm but sincerely affected persons do advance themselves more by ordinary and trifling mortifications than others that consume their strength and spirits with intolerable fastings, chains, disciplines…”

Please do not ask Angels or other beings into your soul or give them permission to enter your soul. This is a very dangerous practice that has had significant negative consequences for many.

There is nothing a spirit can do for you that can’t be done better by either Christ or the Holy Spirit. Please lean on them for counsel.

Blessings.

  1. In what way are angels present in the life of the Church?

The Church joins with the angels in adoring God, invokes their assistance and commemorates some in her liturgy.
’ Beside each believer stands an angel as a protector and shepherd leading him to life.’ (Saint Basil the Great)

I have been writing quite a bit about recurring sins. It is possible to express in confession that sins are addictive. An addictive sin is no longer a mortal sin when confessed as an addiction, because it lowers something called “culpability.” Meaning, you cannot help yourself.

If you have impure thoughts, visit the angelicspiritualwarfare page and pray the two purity prayers and 15 Hail Mary prayers per day. Impure thoughts can be battled in this manner and your guardian angel will be at the ready for you always, especially if you are trying to strengthen yourself with confraternal means. Never underestimate interventive measures in concert with a guardian angel’s protection.

I am not asking my angel to enter my soul, but I am asking him to pray for me. Like for faults he’s witnessing. Facepalm moments. Also maybe keep me from things I should not pay attention to, such as things that are not my business and stuff that is unimportant.

Padre Pio had a true friendship with his angel. I don’t see my relationship with him that way, but I can bet my guardian angel has worked overtime keeping me safe throughout my life. I’m certain at a few moments in my life he’s given me warnings, promptings to avoid certain situations. Because if it had been left up to me I would have run full steam ahead into them blissfully unaware.

I’m not talking about Doreen Virtue or Angel Oracles or any other New Age nonsense. He’s not my ‘Spirit Guide’. I’m leaning towards how I ask St. Anthony to help find lost keys or bank statement. Or St. Jude when things look hopeless.

I bet this would work for ANY preoccupation with the past and past events. Thanks

This thread is not about asking angels to “enter the soul”. It’s about asking for counsel.

Even if one did ask for that, it would not do any harm when one directs that request to his Guardian Angel, since his angel will only do God’s will. It would be misguided to request such a thing, though, as you say.

I was told about Fr. Ripperger’s Guardian Angel video on Youtube a while back and it was what initially got me thinking about this topic. A member of CAF pointed it out to me initially. (Thanks Pat!)
