Hi i was watching Fr Ripperger on youtube. He was talking about Guardian angels and how you can empower them and even ask them to communicate to you through dreams.

I would like a second opinion that this is a licit practice in the eyes of the Church.

Huh, I thought he said they can protect you in your dreams not communicate with you. In general is it advised to not ask for a sign from God or His angels and saints because demons could use it against you.

Eh, I wouldn’t. I’ve heard that demons can influence dreams, so I wouldn’t even go there. Ask for their guidance and protection and leave it at that! :pray:t2:😁

I think it is possible for a guardian angel to work with dreams. Once my dad had a dream about someone getting hit in the head in a car accident. He woke up and his first reaction was to randomly call his brother. When my dad called his brother, he found out that their cousin had died in a car accident and other family members were injured. This car accident also took place on the other side of the world.

Also when I have nightmares, I wake up with a feeling in the middle of the night that I need to pray. Maybe our guardian angels somehow work through that.

Could you link the video? Thanks.

Peace.

p.s.

“Licit” or “illicit” doesn’t make any sense in this context. Private prayer and conversation with God or with saints doesn’t have to follow any kind of specific form or sequence.

Something like that happened to my late mother ~ 40 years ago.

She had a dream that she was in a church which was burning and all filled with smoke. She woke up in fright. Dad tried to reassure her that it was just a dream.

Shortly after they got up, one of Dad’s friends from our church called the house and told him that St. Jude’s in Chalfont burned down. (The fire happened Saturday Oct. 9, 1982; my dad’s friend called Sunday morning Oct. 10, 1982.)

That news frightened Mom. She was white with fear. We went to our church but Mom was still scared.

I guess this also reminds me of what happened to Joseph in the Bible.

When they had gone, an angel of the Lord appeared to Joseph in a dream. “Get up,” he said, “take the child and his mother and escape to Egypt. Stay there until I tell you, for Herod is going to search for the child to kill him.”

Was this in his video talk on Guardian Angels? I don’t recall that advice specifically that’s all. Not that I don’t agree, our angels can help us with many things we don’t think of asking. I learned a lot from him and he cites his source material anyway, most of it the church fathers if I recall correctly.

We are strongly advised against feeling an “authority” over angels. We cannot empower an angel any more than we can empower the Sun.

We are not to name our angels. The only thing your Angel says to you is “do whatever He tells you”, to learn and follow His teachings through His Church.
