Asking priest to offer mass for smebody

Sorry if this isn’t where this post should go. I know a Benedictine priest who says mass privately at the abbey in the extraordinary form daily. I know the form is irrelevant but I was wondering if it was possible for me to ask him to offer a mass for somebody I know that desperately needs prayer due to addiction and is away from the faith completely. If so do they usually say yes and are happy to do it? Is this good enough reason to offer mass for somebody? I do it privately during mass before and at the offertory but i’m just assisting at mass,i’m not a priest who is the person of Christ at the mass. Although I believe my prayers are beneficial and maybe even sufficient(Gods will not mine) I feel it would be more beneficial if the greatest of all prayers is offered for an individual by a priest.

Not really knowing about how it is for Catholics and don’t totally understand this idea of Mass being offered for others etc.

My advice would be to ask him but in a way that would cause him no embarrassment to say ‘no’ or cause you any embarrassement if he says ‘no’.

Am I right that Catholics can pay the Church or Priest to have a Mass Offered etc? I don’t know how all this works not being Catholic. But simply ask him as you did here but being aware of whatever is said here, his own answer may be no, for his own reasons.

Yes of course you may ask and I’m sure that the priest whether he belongs to one of the orders or is a diocesan priest ] will be delighted to do this - you may never know how this helps the recipient , nor will the priest and it’s equally possible that the person who needs help , will not realise they are being helped, but they will be.

It is customary to offer a stipend - this is not payment for the Mass offered - but it’s an expression of appreciation to the Priest some will accept it and others may well refuse ]

You are “sure” that the priest will do this? I think you may be the one answering without a full degree of certainty.

I have had many Masses said for my husband - a non-Catholic -and every time I have asked the Priest has reminded me that it’s an act of Charity and has been delighted to do this.

All the OP has to do is ask - and explain the circumstances leading to the request
