Asperges at High Mass

I have a question about that… I went to an EF High Mass (Missa Cantata - singing/chanting / Missa Recitata – as the congregation did some responding) on Sunday (a day off work I took so I could actually go on Sunday to Mass instead of Saturday evening) where the priest recited the Asperges then sprinkled the servers and the congregation before the start of Mass. Is this only done on Sundays and at High Masses done on Sundays? I went to a High Mass (Missa Cantata) and the Asperges was not done there but the Mass was on Saturday evening too if that makes a difference.

It is my understanding the “Asperges Me” (or the “Vida Aquam” in Eastertide) can be done before any OF or EF Mass. I only wish it were done more often.

It is usually done before the principal Mass on Sundays, if that is a sung Mass.
 
Correct. If you look at the missal the rite of blessing and sprinkling holy water is the first option. The penitential rite is the second option. So except for things like advent and lent it could be done every week on Sunday and at all the masses. Although the custom is to use it regularly during easter and use the penitential rite the rest of the year
 
The only times I notice at OF Mass where sprinkling happens is normal at Easter / Easter season but just after the greeting and penitential rite. The rest of the year its a rarity but of course it does not happen during Advent & Lent.
