Any discussion of Assault Rifles is not appropriate to a Religious Forum.
**In addition, you obviously are being provocative because it is illegal for any civilian in the US to own an AK-47 or AR-15, both of which are fully automatic military weapons. In other words, they are machine guns, just like the Tommy Gun.**In order to legally own an automatic weapon in the US, one must purchase a very expensive Federal Firearms License, which is almost impossible to get for the ordinary person. In addition, there are many Cities and States that prohibit ownership of such weapons.
What you probably mean are “look alikes” that have a cosmetic resemblance to the Military versions but are semi-automatifc. A semi-automatic firearm is one that requires pulling the trigger to fire one shot, An automatic weapon is one that fires continuously when the trigger is pulled. As stated before, these are illegal for civilians to own or posess.
As for the subject being inappropriate, Morality is attributed only to human beings, not to inaminate objects.
The above highlighted is absolutely incorrect. Not in all states. You just have to have a class 3 licenses to have a fully automatic. ALSO you do not know your guns. AK-47 and an AR-15 are semi automatic. 😉 Technically the fully automatic version of the AK-47 is the AKS-47.😃

For defense against today’s modern super animals, like the flying squirrel or the electric eel.
How about against criminals who have them even though gun control is supposed to stop that?

As far as a philosophical reason for owning such a rifle…

It’s for two primary purposes, one individual, the other collective. The right to bear arms is a fundamental human right which no government can legitimately deprive the people. At the individual level, it represents the right to life. Every human being has an intrinsic right to life, and the right to defend their life according to natural law. At the collective level, every People has the right of self-government. If the government deprives the people of the right to bear arms, then the government has rendered self-government a sham, if it ever even existed in that nation in the first place. That’s at best. The day after the government seizes the long rifles is the day you will get whatever government you get. You will have no choice in the matter. Democracy will be even more a sham than what we have today.

There are very solid reasons for stable and productive members of a community to keep and bear arms. They apply to the individual, the family, and the community as a whole. We have an obligation to protect and serve our communities, and to help keep them stable in hard times. Keeping and bearing arms in that sense is also an act of charity towards your neighbors. It keeps them safe. By there being even a small percentage of such persons, and no criminal knowing who is armed, all members of the community will enjoy some level of protection by the uncertainty which drives some number of criminals to avoid crimes or travel elsewhere.
Perfect explanation! And kudos as well to JillianRose.

My husband collects army stuff. We have a lot of “stuff”. I think it is so cool. I also live in a very Pro-Gun state. Funny we have a very LOW murder rate. Yet, Chicago is strict and they are the worse city to live in. There are men that are into race cars. I don’t know anyone personally that was accidentally or other wise hurt by a gun. Yet have 4 family/friends who were killed by cars.
Gun control actually began because crime bosses with government connections were angry that their street-men were being shot by citizens defending themselves.

Because I want to be at least as well armed as the fool breaking down my front door. 🙂
You mean you can’t just compose a speech in the heat of the moment and address his/her inner demons that HAVE to be the result of some bad childhood memory or some other deal that makes the intruder a victim???

:confused::confused:

Oh but, gun control only disarms non-criminals! Citizens are left defenseless against criminals and most importantly, a tyrannical government.

I didn’t know that. Actually I would move out of our state if it ever took our guns. Our guns protected me and my children from a creeper one time. I would die if something ever happened to my child.

Also Criminasl will ALWAYS have guns. They have drugs and that’s illegal. Remember prohibition?

Peace out Friend:D

Like Obama, I’m no good without a teleprompter. I will resort instead to blasting the fools into a pile of sludge that may require alien technology to determine if human DNA still remains.

I would be particularly interested in hearing from owners of AK-47s and AR-15s.

Peace,
Ed
If I had the money I would own two, so if one jams I would have the other for backup. Since I don’t have the money to own one; I own none.

Why should I pay for security cams? Anyone busting down my door means me and my family no good and would likely not be deterred by a camera. But we do know what will stop them. 🙂
I was replying tongue-in-cheek to Ed, not really advocating security cams over old fashioned home defense. 😃

I do not own one of these particular weapons myself. However, I used to know someone who owned an AK-47. It was just one of many guns in a large collection of weapons, mostly military, that included guns, knives, a spear and some bow weapons. He collected them for the same reason some people collect coins. They interested him and had historical significance.

Oh, I know! Sorry for any confusion, but there are those out there who just love their perps. Blech!

Besides, how could any “Michael” true to the name not be a warrior? 🙂
