=tomjoans -I happen to attend an Assembly of God Church and I can only tell you that I Do Not belong to any Religion. Salvation is not about a Religion…it’s about a relationship with Our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. We can be sure of Salvation when He shed His Precious Blood on that Cross that day, which washes away all our sins. In Acts 4:31 God’s Word says, Believe on the Lord Jesus Christ and you shall be saved and your house.
Friend and I do mean friend in Christ,
***I am continually amazed at the gullibility and naiveté of Protestants who post on CAF in regards to what the Bible says and actually means. There seems to be a powerful resistance to using “the entire Word of God,” and not simply a few verses that seem to, out of context support this or that belief that they put forth. This is so common and so powerful as to verge on obstinacy.
Admitting this I know exposes my own gullibility.***
Here is acts 4:31 from the Catholic RSV Bible: “31 “And when they had prayed, the place in which they were gathered together was shaken; and they were all filled with the Holy Spirit and spoke the word of God with boldness. “
SAME KJV: “And when they had prayed, the place was shaken where they were assembled together; and they were all filled with the Holy Ghost, and they spake the word of God with boldness. “
SAME “Young’s Literal Translation”: “31And they having prayed, the place was shaken in which they were gathered together, and they were all filled with the Holy Spirit, and were speaking the word of God with freedom,”
So it seems that your bible has been greatly modified to say and give the message one desires it give. This seems a sure never to have to meet the TRUTH?
***The verse most often quoted that seems to support your claim is of course ***John 3:16, which has “bookends” between verse 5 and verse 36.
“5 Jesus answered, "Truly, truly, I say to you, unless one is born of water and the Spirit, he cannot enter the kingdom of God”
16: “For God so loved the world that he gave his only Son, that whoever believes in him should not perish but have eternal life.”
36: “ He who believes in the Son has eternal life; he who does not obey the Son shall not see life, but the wrath of God rests upon him. “
***And to insure that you understand the message I add ***]Mt. 19:17 “And he said to him, “Why do you ask me about what is good? One there is who is good. If you would enter life, keep the commandments.” and verse 16: “19 [Jesus speaking to Peter when He founded the CC] I will give you the keys of the kingdom of heaven, and whatever you bind on earth shall be bound in heaven, and whatever you loose on earth shall be loosed in heaven."
I can of course provide a multitude of bible verses to support the Biblical truth, that is opposite of what you claim.
Of course we do have to repent and turn from our wicked ways But in 1 John 1:9 it says, If we confess our sins He (Jesus) is faithful and just to forgive us of all of our sins, and cleanse us for all unrighteousness.
Indeed we do. But again you are using a conveniently modified verse.*** This is 1 John 1:9 from the RSV.
“8-10 If we say we have no sin, we deceive ourselves, and the truth is not in us. 9 If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just, and will forgive our sins and cleanse us from all unrighteousness. 10* If we say we have not sinned, we make him a liar, and his word is not in us.”
KJV “If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness. “
Young’s: “if we may confess our sins, steadfast He is and righteous that He may forgive us the sins, and may cleanse us from every unrighteousness”
*** However this is ONLY PART of the message.***
John 20:21 “Jesus said to them again, “Peace be with you. As the Father has sent me, even so I send you.” And when he had said this, he breathed on them, and said to them, “Receive the Holy Spirit. If you forgive the sins of any, they are forgiven; if you retain the sins of any, they are retained.” [Mt. 16:19…”I will give you the keys of the kingdom of heaven, and whatever you bind on earth shall be bound in heaven, and whatever you loose on earth shall be loosed in heaven."[/COLOR]
So friend if you want to actually save your soul the way God tells you to, not the folks that wrote their own version of the bible, think and pray about this.
1 Jn. 5: 16 “If any one sees his brother committing what is not a mortal sin, he will ask, and God * will give him life for those whose sin is not mortal. There is sin which is mortal; I do not say that one is to pray for that. 17 All wrongdoing is sin, but there is sin which is not mortal. ***[Which has to mean that some sins are “Mortal Sins, so severe as to KILL our relationship with God!] ***
1 Peter 4: 17” For the time has come for judgment to begin with the household of God; and if it begins with us, what will be the end of those who do not obey the gospel of God?”
2 Cor. 4: 2 “We have renounced disgraceful, underhanded ways; we refuse to practice cunning or to tamper with God’s word, but by the open statement of the truth we would commend ourselves to every man’s conscience in the sight of God. 3 And even if our gospel is veiled, it is veiled only to those who are perishing.”
1 Thess 1: 8 “inflicting vengeance upon those who do not know God and upon those who do not obey the gospel of our Lord Jesus. 9 They shall suffer the punishment of eternal destruction and exclusion from the presence of the Lord and from the glory of his might.”
Love and prayers from a Catholic Brother,
