I quite like how His Holiness disallowed communal prayer.
 
I still don’t like it. I don’t even understand the point of it all? What is a “joint pilgrimage”? Surely even that phrase suggests we’re all the the same road to God but just in different cars. If His Holiness wants to talk about peace, of course he should do it. But why do it under such a banner? Why witness a pagan praying to his God [there’s a video of a pagan saying a prayer/hymn to his God in the basilica]? I think these Assisi meetings are poor lapses in judgement and perhaps some kind of caving into politically correct pressure.
 
I agree with the two above posts. I think there’s a bit of an expectation that Pope Benedict will do these sorts of things. There hasn’t been one since 2002. Hopefully, we will see a decline in the number of them, and eventually, none at all.

I believe they are good buddies. I am of the opinion that reunion would be closer if the Russians are not involved. There have been many Ecumenical prayers between Catholics and Orthodox as of late.

Was the other Pope there? I’m talking about the Coptic Orthodox Pope.

My comment to the facts reported by the very reputable newspaper, the Washington Post:

I like this part of the article, which quotes from the Pope’s opening speech. I’d like read the speech in it’s entirety. 🙂 :

…“He (Pope Benedict XVl) said it was wrong to demand that faith disappear from daily life to somehow rid the world of a religious pretext for violence, arguing that the absence of God from people’s daily lives was even more dangerous.”
 
I believe our Pope is attempting to stop the misunderstandings that grow from these events…
and I don’t put a lot of stock in how the Post will put a spin on things…

I prefer to listen to what the Holy Father himself thinks

I didn`t like this one bit. But i trust in our pope and know he always strives to do his best.

God bless him and all my fellow brothers and sisters in the true, catholic faith.
