The wearing of your collar is a witness of your vocation that your are serving our lord. I am discerning priesthood and if god willing O become a priest I will always be wearing collar and vestments with honor
It certainly is a witness but what @nunsuch was referring was leisure time - i.e. time “off duty”. Changing out of clericals is actually an important way for me to detach and relax. I’m just as comfortable in clericals as shorts and a t-shirt but I think psychologically it’s important for a priest to be able to unwind and changing into casual clothes is a way of helping do this. Besides this of course, there’s also times when wearing clericals really isn’t going to work like exercise, gardening, going to the beach, etc

Is it the same situation when a convert is allowed to take the name of their own patron saint like We did as converts to the catholic faith like my patron saint is st. Christina of tyre. So when it got to that point of the mass I was st.Christina of Tyre after the priest baptized me using my Christian given name.

Most definitely Father.

I understand that for pratical reasons wearing your clerical clothing is not practical all the time. I was just saying that its more the fact one should be honoured to wear your clothing in public and not feel embarrassed. When I serve i always feel honoured when if asked to wear alb or cassock and surplice.

I hear you on that. My new congregation has several levels of dress, from “high garb” worn by those in the Seminary (Novitiate) to “incognito” worn by those who do sidewalk counseling, or other ministries requiring such. Since I’m a married founder, I’m typically going incognito – civvies with no external signs.

For Sundays, holy days, and school masses, I’m usually in High Garb. However, this past holy day, since there was the possibility of picking up supper on the way home, hubby requested that I not wear the garb. So, I put on my crucifix and MM ball cap, and called it happy. (I veil for Mass).

The garb carries a lot of weight. Our Oblates of St Francis de Sales are usually incognito. When they are in collar, it’s almost a physical shock (similar to “calling in reinforcements”?).
