Today August 15th , we celebrate the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin, which the Catholics around the world observe it as a major feast day, commonly celebrated on August 15. It was proclaimed by Pope Puis XII, on November 1, 1950, that Mary was taken to heaven in body and soul.

Because of her sinlessness, Mary never experienced physical death. Instead she was raised bodily in the presence of Christ the king where she now functions as queen of Heaven. The assumption of Mary was not recorded in the bible but, Mother Mary died in presence of all the Apostles. Her tomb was opened, upon the request of St.Thomas was found empty, where from the Apostles concluded the body was taken up to heaven.

Eight years ago, we asked our (Catholic) realtor to officially list our house for sale on August 15th.

It did indeed go on the market on the Feast of the Assumption. 👍

The house sold in less than a week for full asking price. (the housing market was different 8 yrs ago.)

No, I did not bury a St. Joseph statue.

Happy Assumption! 🙂

Ave Maria! A truly wonderful and joyous feast day.

PS… your first paragraph is fact. The second is limited to personal belief as the Church does not teach authoritatively that Mary never experienced a physical death, that she died in the presence of the Apostles or the story about St. Thomas. I recommend to all interested in the topic to read MUNIFICENTISSIMUS DEUS - the apostolic constitution defining the dogma of the Assumption and the book The Assumption of Mary by Killian Healy

Come, let us worship the King of kings; on this day his Virgin Mother was taken up to heaven!*(Antiphon for Invitatory Psalm)

Blessed are you, O Mary, for the world’s salvation came forth through you; now in glory, you rejoice for ever with the Lord!* (Antiphon 1 from Morning Prayer)

(* Exclamation marks added by me.)

Help us keep our eyes on Jesus, Beautiful Virgin Mary! :gopray2:

Also, I believe you are contradicting yourself here. You say that Mary did not suffer physical death, but you say that she died in the presence of the Apostles.

Note that the Church does not say whether she physically died or not.

Our Blessed Mother Mary: the only person to be once saved, always saved. Pray for us.

I wrote about this mystery in my blog Brother’s Window to the Faith

Click on “Blessed Mother” at the top.

Don’t click on the bottom. That anchor is not working yet.

We’ve been gathering my writings for about a year now and organizing them for future publication. We had decided to wait until the feast of our patron, St. Maximilian Kolbe, to make the public aware of the blog’s existence.

Remember, it’s a blog, like a diary. Just my random thoughts, not a theology book. Just in case anyone decides to mail me funny packages. 😃

You post says Mary did not die but then you say she died in the presence of the Apostles. You can’t have it both ways.

With regard to the Church all Catholics must believe in Mary’s Assumption but as the Church does not know definitively if Mary died first or not Catholics are free to believe either.
Personally I believe Mary died first before being assumed but if another Catholic believes she did not die I cannot say they are wrong as we are both allowed to believe our view on this.

This is a detailed prophetic vision by Blessed Anne Catherine Emmerich of Our Lady’s death on earth.

This is a detailed prophetic vision by Blessed Anne Catherine Emmerich of Our Lady’s Assumption.

It should be noted that Sister Anne was beautified explicitly without reference to her writings, as they are considered by some Church officials to be “explicitly anti-semitic” in places, whereas Vatican II forbade anti-semitism.

I don’t see any anti-semitism (Jew hating) in any of her works I’ve read, just that some Jews did some bad things and some did some great things, but we can’t mention any bad things done as some Jews might get offended.

Anyway, it up to you to believe in her visions or not.

Our lovely and beloved Mother, it makes me so sad that a lot of people can say bad things about her just because they see it as a “Catholic teaching” but don’t see that the bible explains how important she is.

But im not here to complain on such a beautiful day. Our Blessed mother is always with us and will continue to be with just as a good mother does.

The Assumption holds a special place for me since it’s the day I made my total consecration to Mary {in 2012}. The year before that, I went to Lourdes {with a group for WYD} and participated in the holy water bath. {That water is cold, but the experience was wonderful!} I didn’t really think much of the fact that I was making my consecration on the same day {well, a year apart} as my trip to Lourdes. I picked that day because I and a big group of friends decided to do it. {If any of us were struggling, we’d have a big support group to get us back on track.} Also, I sometimes joke about having a “secret devotion” {I know, makes no sense! xD} to St. Clare of Assisi. On her feast day, our group was in Assisi; we were leaving that morning. However, another person in the group and I woke up to go to Mass in her tomb with her body behind the altar. A couple of years later {after discovering my consecration day was the same as my day in Lourdes}, I read that St. Clare was declared a saint on August 15.

Basically, Mary is definitely watching over me and guiding me along to the Lord. 👍

Your post contradicts itself. 🙂

First you say, “Mary never experienced physical death.” Below, however, you say, “Mother Mary died in presence of all the Apostles.”

I feel compelled to point out that you got it right the second time. 🙂 Although Pope Pius XII didn’t include in the dogma the belief that she died, Tradition - Big T Tradition - is nonetheless crystal-clear that she did, in fact, die. Then - in parallel with Christ and in participation in His glory - she was assumed, body and soul, into heaven.

The Orthodox explain this feast day by explaining that we’re celebrating the death, Resurrection, assumption to heaven, and glorification of the Theotokos!
