At Mass: Apostles Creed instead of Nicene?

At my friend’s recent unusual Mass expereince, she was surprised to have the Apostle’s Creed recited when she was ready to say the usual Nicene Creed at Sunday Mass. Is this okay?

On Sunday for a childrens Mass.
 
Same problem in my parish but then again the pastor has his own agenda.
 
Actually in the 2003 edition of the Roman Missal the Apostles Creed is now allowed for any Mass. The new Rubric reads:
“Order of Mass 19. Instead of the Niceno-Constantinopolitan Creed, especially during Lent and Easter time, the baptismal Symbol of the Roman Church, known as the Apostles’ Creed, may be used.”

Regarding the canonical question of whether or not the rubrics of the editio typica apply in a Mass celebrated in the vernacular before the English edition of the 2003 Missal is promulgated, I would say that it is probably allowed and at the very most a minor rubrical infraction.
 
Was she in the US? In Canada we almost always use the Apostles’ Creed as we have an indult to do so. Said indult becomes moot as soon as the 2003 Missal goes into effect.
 
We have a single individual in the congregation who loudly recites the Apostles Creed when everyone else recites the Nicene Creed. It is very distracting. It would be better if we all recited in unison whichever one we recite.

it is permitted in Masses for children, in which the children’s lectionary may also be used, but this is supposed to be a Mass where most of those present are young children, not the parish Mass that has quite a few children attending, but majority of adults. there are other circumstances where it can also be used so I would not definitely say there was an abuse unless I could prove it. as usual, I am speaking of the US since I know nothing about law in other countries

Either is permitted. The GIRM does not specify which Creed is to be said. It simply says the Creed.
In all the years I have attended Mass at my local parish Church we have never said the Nicene Creed. We only use the Apostles Creed.
 
I have been to a parish that use the Nicene Creed for Sunday and other days of obligation, but on any other day, the Apostle’s Creed is said.

Bah, that is distracting. Here in Australia we have moved onto the new Missal, so when most of the congregation responds with ‘And with your spirit’ we always have the odd one or two out that booms ‘And also with you!’… Same with “Let us give thanks to the Lord our God”, we respond with 'It is right and just", the odd ones out always say the older version. 🤷.
