At Mass this afternoon

I was at the Vigil Mass this afternoon and there was about 15 in the congregation (our numbers are getting low).

I was the only one in my pew and there was not much light, during Mass I noticed white crumbs over the kneelers and on the floor.

I started to pick them up and place the particles on my missal so that I could take them to Father after the Mass, I could not kneel on the kneelers as the crumbs were over them so I knelt on the floor being very careful.

After Mass I stayed behind and moved towards the light, and looked down at the white crumbs only to discover it was candle wax; I had been reverently picking up what I thought was fragments of the Host and it turned out to be candle wax (good job I checked before presenting my findings to Father)

It is better to be over concerned than under concerned.

A couple of years ago during a parish mission I picked up the hymnal in the pew to sing along with the hymn to close the evening. When I tried to turn to the correct page I noticed that that page was stuck together.

Figuring that some idiot had decided to put their gum in there (I’ve seen that before) I put the hymnal down and started to reach for another.

For some reason I stopped myself, picked up the original hymnal, and forced open the page. The pages were stuck together because someone had placed a host that had obviously been in their mouth in the hymnal.

I took it to the priest (a visiting priest the mission) as soon as after the hymn ended. He was talking to some people. I interrupted him and showed hymn the host in the hymnal. When he saw it he looked like he was about to cry (which was also how I felt). We went into the chapel. I tore the page out of the hymnal and he took it into the sacristy.

So, you can never be too concerned.
