There are such things as identity fraud. Plus, even if they don’t take out credit in your name, if word gets to the “wrong people” that you are dead, it could impact your ability to get credit or affect social security benefits (I know that is a very remote possibility, but as they say in martial arts and combat sports, protect yourself at all times).
 
I had a friend whose mother opened a credit card in her name, yes they have lots of information on you.
 
We’ll be at peace, it was a wise decision. I would keep to it, indefinitely.
