What does the atheist offer society? Freedom from religion? What can be said to be the fruit of those who are openly atheists?
Comedians are good examples:
It’s all about sex, and money.
Don’t trust anybody. They are all out to take advantage of you. Trust me.
Everything’s dysfunctional. You can blame most of that on religion and rules.
Don’t worry about your teenage kids getting pregnant. They’re going to have sex whether you like it or not. Deal with it. They can always get an abortion.
Religion has nothing good to say about how to live. Never has. It’s a power trip.
You’re gonna die so get lots of sex and money, and junk. That’s all you really got to live for anyway.
Nothin happens after you die. Nothin.
Religion is tearing the world apart. It’s problem number one.
Me? All I got to say is do your own thing, I’ll do my own thing, and maybe, on occasion, we can do something together.
I saw the following on a web site: “Embrace the darkness, it needs a hug!”
Kick out the darkness and embrace the light.
Who is offering you hope? Real hope that you can put into action? Not these people.
Their words tell of a world filled with dysfunction, and why fight it? Just join right in. Husband a pain? Divorce him, everybody else is. It’s too hard to work things out.
Solutions are not in their playbook. You will be victimized all your life so party while you can, look out for number one, and get lots of stuff.
Better yet, get an addiction. Booze, porn, illegal drugs. And don’t worry about solving that problem either. As John Lennon and Yoko Ono sang: “Whatever gets you through the night, It’s all right, all right. Be it wrong or be it right, It’s all right, all right.”
Does anyone see the contradiction there? Good or bad is all right.
I think anyone who has worked hard to achieve something knows that it is not easy. That sacrifices need to be made to reach a goal. That discipline and hard work are required. That you worried along the way that you might not be up to the task. But you had hope.
Hope. I encourage everyone reading this to have hope. To be willing to take a chance not just on yourself but with others. To have hope that your life, however imperfect, is working toward the functional and not the dysfunctional. That you can build trust between yourself and others. To realize that those people I mentioned are not sending you messages of hope. That they are painting in your mind a dysfunctional image of the world that is not going to get better. That you can only see yourself as a victim. And that you cannot trust anyone around you. Not your kids, not your wife or husband.
By setting your mind and your heart on hope, and acting on it, you will have a chance. A chance to turn things around for yourself and the people around you. We are meant to care for others. To have friends. To try to help those having problems. This leads to healthier communities and healthier minds.
I encourage you. Avoid the profane, the dysfunctional, the addictions. The strip bar only cares about your money. But it will distort you. The dysfunctional entertainment you watch will distort you. It is nothing more than spending hours meditating on the bad, the evil, the violent and the dysfunctional. There is no hope there.
Find the source of hope. Think on those things that have some virtue. Don’t add yourself to the problems you see around you. Overcome them as best you can.
God bless,
Ed
