I have been an atheist/agnostic/irreligious for some time now. Is being so (or having been so) a sin that is worth confessing to a priest?

If you don’t believe the priest has the power to forgive the sin (an atheist would logically not believe the existence of sin) what would be the point? Now, if you want to come back to fatih, and want to confess that you need God, and that you were wrong for your rejection of the faith, then by all means, go to confession.I have been an atheist/agnostic/irreligious for some time now. Yes, if you are returning to the Catholic faith and are returning to confession, the sin to confess is apostasy from the Catholic Faith. It would make sense to also tell how long you were in a state of apostasy.I have been an atheist/agnostic/irreligious for some time now. It’s considered along the lines of doubting the creator; in other words a form of blasphemy, without getting too legalistic concering Church doctrine; the catechism, and the bible it’s a moral sin, so yes it’s confession worthy.
We cannot answer that here. You should make an appointment with a wise and holy priest to discuss your cares and concerns about your faith.
