Or - people who claimed no religion has 292,000 abortions.

People who claimed to be Christians had 1,123,000 abortions.
Its not an “or” its an “and”. Look, from your link:
** Abortion Rate: How many abortions per 1000 women in each category aged 15-44. The average abortion rate is 21
The abortion rate for Catholics is cited as being 22. The abortion rate for “no religion” is cited as being 30. Its the # in the far right column in case you are having trouble finding it. So, while the total number of abortions performed on Catholics/other christians is certainly far greater than the total number of abortions performed on those of no religion, the percentage of Catholics who have an abortion is actually smaller than the percentage of no-religion who have an abortion. Both facts are true
I’m pleased to hear that 🙂

Every baby aborted is a tragedy for all concerned, regardless of religion or lack of religion.

In fighting to educate people, most especially mothers, that there are other, better solutions than abortion, focusing on atheists is not helpful.

I absolutely agree. 👍

(I agree about the death penalty as well, with the sole exception of if there is no other way to prevent someone from killing more citizens, but especially nowadays I do not think that is ever really an issue because they can be safely kept in prison)

Yes I agree but as I have already stated there are many deaths in prison that are murders but are classified as natural deaths. So I am not sure how “safe” it is.

If someone ther kills them they will have been wrong to do so. By safe I mean that the public is safe from the menace that threatens their lives. Prisons should, of course, be kept as safe for the inmates as possible as well. Whether or not someone kills them in prison, however, could never be used as an argument for the death penalty. 🤷

If my understanding is correct, and I’m pretty sure it is, any Catholic who has had an abortion is automatically excommunicated from the Catholic Church. Therefore, any person who has had an abortion and had identified themselves as Catholic should have identified themselves as excommunicated immediately afterwards. Your statistics therefore represent the number of excommunicated Catholics who have had an abortion.

Excommunicated Catholics are still Catholics and very much part of the Catholic Church.

Excommunication is a corrective measure.

Excommunicated Catholics are still meant to attend Mass every Sunday for example.

They can’t receive The Host until the excommunication is lifted but they must still fulfill their Sunday Obligation.

👍 You are correct.

It seems to me that there are quite a few pro-life atheists. Nat Hentoff, who writes for the Jewish World Report, was one of the earliest and most well known. He has described himself as a Jewish liberal atheist pro-life advocate.

I think there’s also a website, www.godlessprolifers.org, maybe?

It actually makes more sense to be pro-life if you’re an atheist. This is the only life you have, so all people, including the unborn (who are undeniably human from a strictly scientific standpoint!) should have a right to live. And I have heard “pro-choice Christians” justify abortion by saying it’s “sending the baby back to God”. Disgusting!

In Christ,
Ellen
