The point is that everyone has a god, in the sense that we are have a highest principle.
Well, I don’t. I have many principles, some high some low, but none highest.
It is a common monotheist’s mistake to assume that other people must place something else there, where they have placed God, i.e. on that “highest place”. One shouldn’t conclude from oneself to others.

Perhaps you are not even aware of it. I am guessing that you regard your own intellect highly. I stick by my assertion. All people have a god-concept that is, for them their highest principle.

Ever since I have really embraced my faith and embraced Jesus and pray everyday, I find atheism to be actually insulting…I feel atheist are insulting Jesus, and I can’t help it but take it personal…It’s like when I watch the crucifixion scene in a movie, I get so angry at the people laughing at my Jesus! does anyone else feel this way?..I wish I didn’t feel this way, I don’t want to hurt their feelings, and I’m friends with some atheists…as long as we don’t talk about religion, we get along…I think at one time in my life, I was possibly agnostic, but at my lowest point, I was never atheist…I just don’t understand it…How could a person not love Jesus…?
I read the thread so far, and saw where you explained that the soldiers laughed and mocked Jesus.

I fail to understand how this has anything to do with Atheism. Atheists say that they do not believe in god.

It seems like you have a problem with Atheists, just because they deny God.
We do not go out of our way to be insulting towards religion you know….

The odd time some of us find it amusing that folks believe that (barring the contradictions) there were at least 1 pair of each animal on a boat…or something like that.
If some of us do this though, it’s usually with the point to help people realize exactly how farfetched the things that they believe in actually are.

But to find us insulting just because we hold a different world view to you is…well, uncool, ya know?
If we bug or upset you, just walk away man, just walk away.

I hope you get over that, Atheists are good people. Seriously!

Cheers.

Maybe as an individual, but atheists in general do very often denigrate religion and those who adhere to it.

I still stand by my notion that it isn’t that most atheists don’t believe in God, it’s just that they have no use for Him. Just look at the quotes in your own signature…

Just thank God that you received that grace. Just think how much harder life is without the hope and joy that you know Christ can bring, and will bring if you pray for it.

Don’t take atheism personally and let anger take over, it is just letting the devil win again. Open your heart up to these people and pray for them. Replace the anger with hope, and prayers and then we have a chance of watching Gods Grace flow!😃

Remember atheists are still Gods people if they want to be. Just hope you can open their eyes to the truth with the help of God. So replace anger with Prayers and see what happens. God will amaze you.

We have no use for him because we don’t believe in him. What use is there for something we do not recognize, believe in or subscribe to? Your notion is a moot point and a bit contradictory, really. 🙂
Just look at the quotes in your own signature…
Exactly. My signature quotes proves that your notion is a moot point, especially the one about miracles. right backatcha! 🙂

I don’t think you understand the quote. He is not saying all who drink are happy. He is saying not all are.

Sigh.

Every time I hang out here for more than a few months, I find myself sympathizing with the atheists and other assorted nonbelievers/nonCatholics.

Why do so many believers feel the need to trash those who disagree with them? It’s fine to disagree and debate, but why the need for repeatedly insulting them?

People have been defaming Jesus for centuries. For years upon years they insult our Lord and Savior. Do you not think the Lord has a place for them when their time is up? I always thought of atheists when they die, they see the face of Jesus, but it just passes them by as they wail and cry out…let Him sort them out.
I personally could not be friends with an atheist.

I would like to call the one on the quote about the ones who believe in God not being any happier then the ones that don’t, Not you personally of course. I know you didn’t say it.

But I can say that anyone who really has the faith I mean true honest real faith of Jesus deep down in their heart can not help but to have true happiness.

The only difference is they know that true unconditional total happiness is not in this world but in the next And instead of making them sad it makes them happier because this world they know is short, the next is forever. You can ask anyone who really understands death, they can relate to what I am saying. The most happiest moment in this world could never even compare to whats to come for a true believer of Christ.

Science will NEVER and may I add cannot figure out how man got here. They will NEVER do this. Man is to complex. Must be God.
Furthermore, when the scientists are climbing the mountain looking for ways to figure this out, they’ll see the Theologians camping out under it…👍👍

I don’t think you understand the quote. He is not saying all who drink are happy. He is saying not all are.
And thats what I am saying who every said everyone that drink are happy?
A happy drunk, mebbee?

I’ve met a few, but then again, too few to mention. :whacky: :whacky: :whacky: :whacky: :whacky: :whacky: :whacky:

Helpfully,
Mick

Can anyone else see a difference between insulting Christ (and/or God) and not believing in Christ (and/or God)?

No. To insult Christ is the same. If you are to mock Jesus, then why would you believe in Him?

Can you not even acknowledge the possibility that someone else may look at the same evidence that convinced you and not be convinced, without assuming that they’re “evil” or “hellbound” because of it?

I keep seeing people on these forums (not naming any names 😉 ) who moan, in threads like this one, that they’re horribly insulted by the way atheists (Muslims, Mormons, [fill in your favorite wrong belief system]) defame Christianity - then start new threads defaming those belief systems in exactly the same way.

Pot, kettle?

Are you a Christian? why wouldn’t anyone here, particularly on a Catholic Forum not be upset by this? Did you see what Jerry Springer did? Talk about mocking Christ.
