Because whether you want to believe this or not their foundations are religion. They have grown up with it all around them and its positive influence they have accepted but rejected other parts.
How did we know which were the good parts?

The problem with atheism is that its not a philosophy, not to say there and plenty of atheistic philosophies out there that atheists subscribe too. They think they can get around criticism by saying " all atheism means is lack of belief in a God or deity", " It doesn’t imply anything else". Oh if only that was true! There are ideas that are implicit in the rejection of God that many atheists don’t recognize. In the foolishness of youth I was a hard anti-theist, objectivist, for about a year until I debated a catholic presuppositionalist. He showed me that an atheistic world view cannot account for the necessary preconditions to make debate let alone life possible. It takes awhile but right after you shoot down the " empirical evidence is the only way to validate truth claims" the atheist’s argument & world view will crumble and be exposed for what it is… pure fideism.

Well, I’m not an objectivist, but to fall for presuppositional apologetics… I guess you are right where you should be. That’s the intellectual equivalent of getting suckered by three card Monty.

Okay, what other ways are there to validate truth?

Logic, void of politics.
Humility to Reality
Love of accuracy
Resolution Debating
Permission from the State to do the above.
Haha, I just realized that the definition of truth is perhaps the real difference in philosophy here. 🙂

So you have to believe nature created itself.
No. Most atheists will happily tell you that they have no idea where nature came from.

When no one knows the answer to a question, “We don’t know” is an appropriate response.
