Atheist baptism

Got this question recently and didn’t know how to respond.

If an atheist decides to get baptized, will they be able to enter Heaven?
 
If they are not serious about it and are planning on remaining an atheist, then no. One must be contrite of heart and have a desire for God to be validly baptized.
 
Pretty silly to turn yourself from a heathen into an apostate. There are plenty of baptized people in Hell.
 
I assume that you mean a former atheist. Baptism has no effect without faith.
 
Sort of 2nd grade spirituality.

Trying to figure out the rules and find a sneaky way to get in.

Life is actually not a game.

This reminds me of the classic agnostic cant: “Oh Gd, if there is a GD, save my soul, if I have a soul.”

Short answer: yes.

In fact, an atheist can go to heaven whether he is baptized or not. If an atheist reasons sincerely that there is no God, he is commiting no sin as long as is truly unaware of the rational problems of his view, and one needs to be in a state of mortal sin in order to go to hell.

In fact, C.S. Lewis would say that the atheist is better off leaving the church as long as he is genuinely following his reason.

Infants are neither contrite nor desire God. Are they not validly baptized?

That’s something of a debate among non-believers. Those who define atheism as “a lack of belief in gods” claim that infants fall under that definition, since they in fact do not believe in gods (at least any coherent one). Others say that defining atheism in this way makes it almost meaningless.

Personally, I think it’s a bit silly to assign philosophical positions to infants.

This brings to mind a good example of those tribal people out in the jungles of Africa. Or perhaps the native Americans who were born without knowledge of our Lord. Even they believe in a higher power yet weren’t born to believe this.

I don’t think we see examples of atheistic tribes who don’t have a concept in something greater than themselves just because they were born outside of the faith.

But, I’m just pondering…

From what I’ve seen no one really knows what set of requirements will guarantee some one’s entrance into heaven. That would make it kind of difficult to rule some one out.

John 3:5, Mark 16:16, 1 Peter 3:20-21, Titus 3:5-6

That’s not scientifically accurate. Your statement should be figured this way;

“We have no evidence that Heaven exists”

Otherwise all I have to say to you in regards to your post is simply, prove it.

What else would be needed beyond sincere admission and repentance to God for one’s sins?

Lacking that, how does one get saved?
