I was wondering if anyone else read the article on atheists forming “churches?” The article was interesting and for the sake of discussion, I want to bring up a couple of points from it.
- Some atheists feel that the lack of a social community, such as a church, is detramental to the people who follow the ideology. Time to be with others of like thought and convictions and have someone who will help you in times of need can be fulfilled in a easy manner.
- Not to sound too much like Faith of Abraham, but there are humanist Jews who have removed God from their worship. I know that being Jewish is as much cultural as it is a matter of faith, but I would love to hear from the Jewish posters on here about this.
- Some atheists feel that the very title atheist is an insult. Some want to be called anti-theist and others are not sure what they want to be called, but they do not want those of us who believe in God to pick the name
- Some atheists are bothered by the concept of an atheist “church.” So much so that they exclude members of it from promoting the community in their print ads.
