hello again my friends. just a quick question. i have alot of intelligent and unfortunate worldy athiest friends, how could i get them to convert and what knowledge could i present to them as proof that christianity is the only way to god.

thanks. and god bless!

Mr. Isla

P.S.

thank you for your help so far. dont get me wrong, i have learned from the previous posts its just i want something to convince them deeply so they can actually come to the lord.

There is no such magic bullet (book). Different people reject God for different reasons (and often very personal reasons).

However, IMHO, the closest you could get to such a “magic book” is Mere Christianity by C.S. Lewis (who was not Catholic - he was Anglican). It is a thin and easily read book which establishes the building blocks for the Christian faith (which is why it is titled “mere” Christianity).

After that, I would recommend Theology for Beginners by Frank Sheed (a Catholic).

Here are some good books:
More than a Carpenter by Josh McDowell (highly recomend, not very thick either)
The Case for Christ by Lee Strobel
The Case for a Creator by Lee Strobel

Note: These are written by Protestants and contain some errors, however the general stuff is pretty good (and compelling I might add).

Sacrifice and prayer are the two books we use to convert sinners 😉

In all honesty, there is no way. There is, however, a way to drive them further away from Christianity: Try to convert them.

I know that sounds a little mean, and I’m sorry if it offended you, but I’m not kidding. At all…

Indeed. However, if they are interested in learning, the books I recommended would be good. But I agree, there should be no pressure! I was under the impression they were interested. Now that I looked back at the OP maybe not. :o

Sorry, I just have to ask…

Is this the *same *Josh McDowell who has written books on the topic of “Evidence that Demands a Verdict,” which are some of the most intellectually vapid books in all of Christian apologetics?

Do you mean to say that this same author has actually written a cogent Christian book? I find this VERY hard to believe!!! The man has yet to compose a single intelligent sentence, much less an entire book!

God bless him for his faith, but his intellect (and the strength of his testimony) is on a pre-school level. An atheist *child *could make mincemeat of McDowell in a debate.

I would recommend McDowell to idiots, but not to anyone with a modicum of intelligence.

I haven’t read anything else by him but I think he did write “Evidence that Demands a Verdict,”. As to the book I read I though it was interesting. He quoted a lot of people…the quotes I found interesting. I can understand what you are saying. Some of the things he says himself kind of bored me. However, some of the information he gives is useful. 🙂

ow could i get them to convert and what knowledge could i present to them as proof that christianity is the only way to god.
May I recommend simply living your faith. Words are not always the answer. What great converts have been made when someone witnesses a Christian who lives with humility and self-sacrificing love for his/her neighbor.

I would tend to focus on the ultimate despair that assured non-existence must bring about in atheists. How can anything they think or do matter, any more than the buzzing pattern of a horsefly matters? Because the interesting truth is that hardly anybody actually lives as though they are just bags of temporarily animated chemical reactions, even though that is what atheism teaches.

Of course, you are right. The only conversion that I believe is the right conversion is only when the non-Christian is interested. Otherwise, it is down-right theft.

**There is no proof - not unless you can prove to your friends that you are well-disposed to them. **

Relations between persons cannot **be treated as though they problems in maths or the sciences - because that is not what relations between persons are. God showed His Love us, not by giving us mathematical proofs out of Euclid, but by giving us His Son. Proofs of things have to be in accord with the nature of those things - that’s why people don’t use hacksaws to open eggs for their breakfasts: for there is no proportion between taking the top off an egg, & cutting down a tree. Anymore than there would be, in giving the name of a colour as the date of an event. **

If the validity of the Christian faith - say rather, of Christ - could be proved, it would not be worth bothering with. Jesus did not mess around trying to move minds by reliance on any such nonsense as that - He died on a Cross instead, & rose from the dead. Reliance on any other type of argument is misplaced.

God Alone can do that.

I used to be an atheist, and would hate when Christians would get Godly with me.

I came about through the witnessing of others, particularly my grandmother.

So if you want to convert others, be a good witness to Christ. That is the only way, trust me. There is no “proof” that God exist that is substantial, that you can hold in your hand. My faith in God is VERY solid and very strong, don’t get me wrong. But it is hard to magically convert people.

You can talk to people about God though, and let them know why you believe in God. When missionaries are sent out, they don’t go around forcing or persuading people to believe. They witness first by doing good deeds, and they also explain.

There is no such proof. Otherwise, everybody would be a Christian.
why can’t everyone be christian. is that what jesus wants. and to go into to that even futher… why does he want to judge us?

but doesn’t god want us to convert people of all nations and ages? why should i hestitate from doing that?

Your question and instinct are (uncharacteristally) correct. **Blade and Blood’**s advice is unwise, unbiblical, unchristian, and uncatholic, and it flies in the face of everything Jesus wanted his Church to accomplish.

Once again, it will drive them further away. Besides, we really don’t know what God wants. Converting others may be what the Bible said, but at the end of the day, it’s just a book written by men.

At this point, the best thing to do is to stay on good terms with everyone. You’ll a few here and a few there who take an interest in Christianity and desire a conversion, but it’s safe to keep a spiritual distance unless you mean no harm.

of course it is? the bible wasn’t going to be written by aliens? god wrote the bible throught man. because he is eons and eons ahead of us in time and thought and is the smartest intellectual being in everything. christianity is the only religion that offers a solution of suffering. accept him. and you shall be in paradise. And ironically i think you know christianity and catechism is true. 👍
