Athiest, how can you not believe in God?

This is the problem; his character is not in poor character, in fact he is morally neutral just like every other animal. So such a statement is false. You can choose to impose your ideas on others, but one cannot speak of “poor character”, since its simply a matter of "i dont like your behavior. I am in a more powerfull position then you are, therefore i am going to punish your behavior.

I can say that he has poor character because I am judging him based on my own moral beliefs. I cannot say that he is factually, undoubtedly, cannot be argued evil.

While I recognize that my morals are the way they are due to deliberate molding, it doesn’t make my convictions any less powerful.

We’ve all been raised to condemn murderers. We all agree that having a person going around killing other people is a very bad idea. It’s not a fringe belief.

Something like polygamy, this is where beliefs of good and evil get tricky. You may believe that it’s wrong, no matter how you slice it, for a man to be sleeping with multiple women.

I, on the other hand, believe that as long as every party is aware of what’s going on, there’s no harm.

You believe he’s bad, I believe he isn’t. How can either of us say we’re 100% correct?

Your authority cannot be in moral law, Its not a matter of “moral law”, “right and wrong”; rather it is a matter of “absolute power”, and those who have the power, are the ones that get to dominate there ideas over the masses; making laws of how they think people should live according to what makes the king feel comfortable.

But this isn’t a monarchy, our laws are not decided by one king. Almost all of us agree that murder, stealing, raping should not be tolerated.

It’s not much different, though, from when the majority of the people in this country thought slavery was OK.

We just do what we think is right.

Why does God have to be the source of objective moral law. Why cannot objective moral law simply be part of our reality. A component of how things work?

Good question.

For God to be God, he cannot just be all powerfull, he has to be the highest of all the good things we experience in reality also; he has to be the source of all being; other wise he is not really God at all. If the moral law does not extend from his being, and are in fact above him, in the respect that he is just as bound and judged by an objective Moral Law as we are, then he cannot reasonably be called God. He is lower then something else. In that case, he ceases to be God.

To say “God is good” isn’t just saying that he does good things; it is to say that he is, himself, “Eternal Goodness”. The same goes for saying that “God is Love”, for to be perfectly good, one has to be perfectly loving, and not only that, God is one and the same being with eternal Love. There can be nothing higher for he is the Highest. They are one and the same being. To offend God is trully to offend the Greater Objective Good, not just Gods “subjective” opinons on how we should conduct our selves.

This is also a very good question.

The world is in fact shaped in such a way that we can in fact sense “Objective Moral Values”. In other words, we sense the Greater Good, which is God. So in some sense, maybe Gods being does in fact permeate the natural world; and our blindess of him, is partly because we refuse to regognise him for who he trully is.
