It is my understanding that the Catholic church does not teach that Jesus died in our place at Calvary. Or it is not as simple as that. The Church teaches that God’s honor was violated in the garden of eden and that his justice needed to be appeased. The only possible way for this to happen was the second person of the Blessed Trinity Jesus Christ to become man and die for our sins. Anyone have any thoughts? Thank you

Catechism of the Catholic Church:

"‘For as by one man’s disobedience many were made sinners, so by one man’s obedience many will be made righteous’ (Rom. 5:19). By his obedience unto death, Jesus accomplished the substitution
of the suffering Servant, who ‘makes himself an offering for sin,’ when ‘he bore the sins of many,’ and who ‘shall make many to be accounted righteous,’ for ‘he shall bear their iniquities.’ Jesus atoned for our faults and made satisfaction for our sins to the Father" (615).

Gaudium de veritate,

The Atonement is the heart of the gospel. Great topic!

My favorite doctrine in all of the Scriptures is the substitutionary atonement of Christ; this is the heart of the heart!

Praise the Lord Jesus Christ! 👍
