Attempting the Black Fast

I think I’m going to give it a go. Talked to my doctor about it and he insisted that I include a Slim-Fast drink or similar earlier in the day.
Has anyone else attempted it ?
I did do a two day fast once with just water. I was light headed and sometime in the second day the hunger disappeared.

I’ve been doing 16:8 fasting in preparation for Lenten fasting.

I want to ultimately do OMAD on Lent.

I fast primarily for spiritual purposes and to counteract my predisposition to the sin of gluttony.

I once had to do 36 hour fast to prepare for a medical procedure.

I had hunger pangs on the first day at noon but it disappeared and I never felt hungry throughout the fast.

After the medical procedure I was given the green light to eat again but since I really wasn’t hungry I didn’t eat until several hours later.

Great! There’s a lot of info on OMAD on the internet and even Facebook sites on it. But doing it for spiritual reasons is the key for us.

I was surprised when I told my doctor.

She gave me the green light when I told her I planned to fast for religious purposes.

She said I was healthy so there should be no complications when I fast.

My coworkers love to cook and bake so there’s always free food in my workplace courtesy of my coworkers.

It’s tempting but I imagine myself with Christ out in the desert fasting alongside with him and this peace descends on me. Very comforting feeling.

I’m on too many medications to fast. At 63 I think I’m okay just skipping meat.

Yes

Abstinence is still mandatory for Ash Wednesday and all the Fridays of Lent.

So no red meat or fowl which includes penguins.

On Mardi Gras maybe but not on Ash Wednesday or the Fridays of Lent.

My recommendation, especially since you already talked to your doctor about it, is that if you are serious about doing it, just do it.

120 calories per day for 40 days? That doesn’t sound very safe.

Years ago, I ate two small meals and zero on Fridays. Liquids only. I wanted, in part, to feel Christ’s hunger. Aside from several spiritual benefits, it netted me 35 pounds loss in 40 days.

Can’t do that anymore
How old were you when you did this?

It isn’t safe, especially coupled with use of laxatives.
I would expect such a fast would only be done under medical monitoring for a medical reason.

My greatest block with fasting is my energy level. With three young children at home, I need a good amount of energy to get through the day (not that I have it, mind you – but I clearly need it). Does anyone here follow a strict fast with young kids to care for?
